I just spent opening weekend crashing through the bushes of overhunted Colville, saw nothing but a couple of doe, couple bear from a distance but no Legal Deer.  There are so many hunters over there, unless you have access to private land or know exactly where the bucks are at your not going to be very successful.  I live in Edmonds and cannot afford to take another long weekend over the mountains, in years past I have hunted on the west side but more and more places I have hunted black tail have been closed or have outrageous annual fees to hunt.  If anyone could point me to some public land fairly close I could take the weekend to hunt or even close enough to do a couple of weekday evening hunts I would appreciate it
Thanks and Happy Hunting!

The forest service roads northwest of Darrington can get you into some great spots.

I gave up hunting around Darrinton a long time ago. All the clearcuts are getting grown up and the logging around that town has pretty muched stopped. If you live in Edmonds why don't you take the ferry out to the peninsula and hunt some of the private timber land out there? There are lots of deer and lots of fresh clearcuts to hunt. Hopefully this helps.Good luck.

I gave up on half-assed hunting and am not going back! Not accusing anyone here, but one of the many mistakes I made in my early years of hunting was sparing every expense--including gas.  Too bad I learned this lesson when gas is $3-4 a gallon and not $2-3  :bash:  If you're serious about getting an animal, find out where you need to be hunting, take a scouting trip or two, and make it happen  :twocents:

Its sure nice to have a couple partners you can rely on to split the cost of fuel. I used to hunt Montana, Idaho and Wyoming, as well as here, on my own but gas was not a factor then. I cant imagine doing it today, several trips back and forth to and from Montana this year would be a little hard on the wallet
The things that come to those who wait, may be the things left by those who got there first!
