Muley or Whitetail?
« on: June 11, 2013, 06:06:57 PM »
A few decent looking bucks out of a group of eight or so that pass through here daily.  Think this WT will end pretty heavy?

Just to clarify, the question I was asking was "which one to go for in September?"

IMO it doesn't get much better than taking a nice hog of a muley...

with regards to the cam pics, hopefully that buck sticks around!

avg thickness...still early and look thicker now than they will look in 3 weeks. If you see a truly heavy bucks in velvet its staggering the mass.

example of a buck that looked heavy, but once shedded it was avg at best

That's still a great buck for most guys NW.

Mass in the velvet is very deceiving as stated above.  Personally, I'd say the whitey you posted won't have any mass. :twocents:

Yeah I think NW is in a league above me.  I'd be more than thrilled to pattern a buck like the one he's got in that picture.

I'm more interested in taking a clean kill mature buck at close range for my first bow kill.

Thanks for all the replys, sounds like the whitetail will be not as impressive as I initially thought but I think he'll still make my hit list.

Best of luck tagging him.  I'm guessing you will probably even have more impressive options on your trail cam come Sept.

Another example. This buck looked a lot smaller after the velvet was gone.
Aim small, miss small.
