GMU 501 - Lincoln
« on: October 13, 2008, 11:04:32 PM »
My dad and I might be hunting this unit in November. Between now and then I am going to try and drive some areas.

I am wondering if anyone has some areas that I should avoid looking.

I don't know about places to avoid, but I saw a lot of elk sign between Deep Creek and Teague Road this spring and this late Sept., but DNR opened the gates so Trucks and quads have been rolling through for a while so the animals are probably nocturnal. A lot of sign though.....

I looked on map and the area I talked about is state land (DNR) access by Deep Creek,Teague Road, Cooks Hill Road, and Graff Road. These gates were locked in spring with signs probiting entry by motor vehicle. Unlocked when I went to look around this fall. I also went out Bunker Creek and turned west and found some area that looked good at the end of pavement with a gate showing seasonal road closure, did not check that yet.

The gate at the end of bunker rd. gets locked pretty soon if not now. You can walk or bike in beyond the gate. There is some private property to watch out for behind the gate.
