Trapper Bruce goes to school again
« on: June 16, 2013, 12:24:07 PM »
Here's a few pics of some kids I spoke to about trapping and fur at Cloe Clark Elementary School. Did this a few weeks ago and just getting around to posting something about it.

There were a lot more than this but I was so busy I only managed to get the four pictures. I figure I spoke to about 250 kids that day. The kids were great. They loved it and so did I. When at the end of a talk kids come up to you and give you a hug and tell you that you are awesome or you rock! Well it just doesn't get much better then that.

They get to come up and feel the furs and the wolf and beaver seemed to be the most popular but They sent me thank you cards and every animal was mentioned.

I have to say you hear so many disparaging things about the younger generation but these kids make you feel good about the future. They have an assembly every morning in the gymn of all the students in the school where they say the Pledge of Allegiance and sing God Bless America. Not one overweight kid in the entire school and the best behaved kids you could imagine, far better then I remember myself.
Their thank you cards showed me how articulate they are and that they really soaked up what I said.
A positive experience all around.

Bruce were you invited to come there by someone you knew or did you approach the school yourself? WSTA still has a collection of furs for this purpose, or am I wrong? Would be great if that could be done more! Thank you, and that is awesome :).

A teacher at the school contacted me through our website. She was asking about small pieces of fur from WA animals to show the kids. I told her that it was hard to get such things but I would come to the school and show the furs we have to the kids. The school embraced me though and this is the second year I have went. I thought it would be one class but it has turned into an all day thing with a new class every 40 minutes.
I am in Possesion of the furs we use at the fair and they are available for others to use. Some are mine but most belong to WSTA.

I was cruising through some of the trapping threads, and ran into this one. Pretty cool Bruce  Things like this stick in kids minds. I remember going into my friends grandpa's fur shed, and looking at all of his furs,  traps, and trap tools. It's always kinda stuck with me. After reading the trap threads on hear, i'm really feelin it :chuckle:
