I'm confused by this... it's a LOT harder bank fishing than boat fishing. What do you mean they don't work for it?

Maybe he's talking about people who don't usually fish coming out during pink years that come out just for pinks for the "battlefishing" because of what they saw on the news about the millions and millions of fish coming every 2 years.  But yeah I'm with bknilvr, we'll stick to the boat in the salt for salmon, lol we barely fish from the bank on rivers nowadays, too many freaking people on the rivers now even on off pink years.

People don't want to get into the water. If you buy a 50 dollar pair of waders you can effectively get away from most of the groups. Most folks would much rather sit high and dry than stand knee deep in water. Once you get away from the ten people who are shoulder to shoulder, fishing for pinks gets immensely easier. Which isn't very difficult to begin with.

I won't ever fish for pinks in the rivers... Even though my dad has a house right on the Puyallup river... Brings out all the absolute nimrods with their 8 foot leaders and corkies.

I can only handle hearing " it's in the mouth" so many time per minute.

Hmm.. I guess we never fished the same rivers. You literally cannot get away with staying dry, you're in with waders or not lol.

HAHAH this made me laugh.. yeah nimrods is a nice way of putting it. We fished Puyallup our first year fishing and it was ridiculous but we didn't know any better. Don't mind putting in the miles to get as far away as possible from there now.. but it's still elbow to elbow in most of the river mouths we hit

There are plenty of fisheries you could fish and catch a lot of tasty fish.  A couple 20 or 30 pound kings make a lot of meals.  Same is true for limits of coho.  But, I certainly see your point and would eat whatever salmon I could catch if that was all I had.

If you truly are that hard up for fish, shoot me a PM and I will tell you exactly where and when to go fish to stock up.

Lol you guys are crazy, pinks are delicious. People who dont or wont eat them are straight prudes. A fish is a fish, Sure theres better fish, There always will be some thing better to someone else. But Its a salmon. Im happy with any salmon brought to shore.
Pink, Silver, King, Steelhead. Whatever. Ill even eat the darkies, If you actually know how to cook you can make dirt taste good.
If all else fails, The smoker works to. 

they arent my fave to eat, but I will eat some. once you eat sockeye it makes you a prude! haha. I save pinks for giving away or for cooking for visitors that dont normally eat fish so that way they stay away from my sockeye stash!

Yeah Ive never touched a sockeye. Caught/Eatin plenty of every other salmon though.

I was raised on Alaska Sockeye. You should splurge on it just once.
I still eat the smoked pink though. I spent plenty on years without salmon to let even the pinks go to waste.

Pinks aren't that bad to eat, I agree. But they aren't good either. I'm picky because I can be, I realize not everyone can. Smoked pinks are ok, smoked silvers are good and smoked kings are delicious. I won't eat chum, they gross me out. People say the same thing about nasty barred chums, they are good smoked. Yeah right.

Wonder if I can make dog treats with the pinks? They feed salmon to their dogs on that Yukon men show.

Chum salmon got the name dog salmon because it was caught and used by alaskan natives as their sled-dogs' feed is what I've always heard.. pretty sure pinks and any other salmon would be fine

Chum is definitely for the dogs.
By the way, compared to many of the fish that people eat worldwide, Pinks would be a delicacy. We are spoiled to live in this part of the country where we have a selection of the best food in the world.

Are you goin' after them?  Always wanted to try that on a flyrod, never had the chance..

That's what I'll be trying on the Skagit this year. Pinks on a 7wt fly rod. Should be fun.
