Its really exciting when you are sitting there calling and you hear a twig snap behind you.  You turn your head and there at about 30 feet is a Grizz eyeballing his next meal.  :chuckle:   The longbow doesn't seem like such a good idea at the time.

You should have no problem killing a moose in Oct and still making it to the Entiat in late Nov. No need to scout for deer if you already know the area. The deer will be moving in there with some weather. Good luck on both hunts. Looking forward to stories and pictures.

You've been given some great advice from some locals!  Above Bead Lake all the way to the Idaho border, above Marshall Lake, LeClerc Ck area all hold huge moose and they're easier to find that bucks!  There are also a lot of moose around Yokum Lake though I'm unsure how much of that land is huntable.   Heading further north, Sullivan Lake area also holds some great moose, as well as a good population of Grizzly.  Another option would be to head into Idaho, camp on the north end of Priest Lake, ID.  Hwy 57 turns into a dirt road (USFS road 302) about 6 miles north of Nordman, ID and then goes back into Washington shortly after that.  Once in Washington there's some really large moose in that area, especially around "Hughes Meadows."  Don't let F&G fool you into believing there aren't many Grizzly or that there aren't any on the south end...there are!  I'd also suggest having a cougar tag in your pocket too.  They're in there as well.

Thanks for the info.  I went up there last weekend and covered some ground.  Talked with some locals and met a guy on the hill that gave me great info.  We saw quite a bit of game.

You can go to Lake Sullivan (I could have misspelled it)  but they ranger station there has a computer which they showed me of all the grizzly's they had collared and monitored.  The ranger told me those bears came from Yellowstone.  This would be good to see where the bears are so you know where to be careful.

BTW, those bears were put there because they did not act well in Yellowstone.

They also put way more than they should have, into a very small territory.  That's why they've been moving south.  I grew up 7 miles outside of Newport.  The year I graduated high school, 1987, we had a couple of grizzlies in our pasture...lol.  There's been several sighted around the Deer Park area as well, for the past several years.

I ran into one on a bow hunt in Montana one year.  Definitely a little more intense than seeing a black bear in the wild.

Make sure that you have a good map or gps if you head into that Nordman Idaho and then off 302.  The Nordman road winds in and out of Idaho and believe me there are griz in there, ive seen them many times!  I've also seen huge bulls in there and a few sporatic Elk in those areas.

In early November saw numerous bulls from the 1920 rd. and shot a 46 1/2 bull. Got there by driving up the cee cee ah rd.

the longer you wait the worse the weather and there is a chance of a big snowstorm which would shut everything down.   I dislike fog the most.   it is a tough choice of what time to go and I wish I had to make that choice.  good luck and have fun.   mike w

Ya.  Trying to get a bull elk tag done now in peaches.  Called a couple in for him just couldn't close the deal.  One to small and one needed a couple more steps.  Seeing quite a few and hearing a few, but ya just a warm up for the moose hunt!!! Can't wait!
