Madmax-- Have you ever hunted mule deer in the rut?   cause if not it can be kind of overwelming.....  My best advice of hunting Muley's in the rut is DONT GET A ITCHY TRIGGER FINGER...  If your going for a big buck its really hard i mean really hard to pass on 4 points all day long, 24-26inch mule deer buck looks pretty big especially with a white back drop "snow"...    Good luck, you wont need any help if you already know the area..  :twocents:

agreed , but i cant say if i could hold out if a nice 4x walked out infront of me .... but thats a hell of a tag so gotta stay strong and wait for the 30' + your looking for !
be careful going in search of adventure its ridiculously easy to find.

nope never have hunted the mule deer rut, just blacktails, although I have been elk hunting in unit 270 in Montana during the deer rut and it was unreal to watch and be close to some stud mule deer.
I have a good buddy that owns a place in the Methow valley who is going to let me stay at the cabin for the whole season, he will be with me and I trust his judgement.
I want a solid buck, not looking for B&C, nice dark horned big solid 4x4 would be fine.
I want the wow factor and will know it when I see it.

I have passed before, and I have killed a lot of deer, and god willing I'd like a nice shoulder mount mulie at my place on the wall.
I know you cant kill a big one when your skinning the small one
Only time and the weather will tell.
Thanks for the kind words and good advice from all.

Its good you got a buddy going with you to judge for ya, cause like i said its overwelming... You well see bucks like crazy, i had basically that same tag a few years ago and I had some good muley guys with me and passed on 16 different 4points in 3 days, then on day 3 i shot a 25inch buck, that i wished i passed on now, my trigger finger got itchy and I thought i could pass, i was by myself when i shot that buck and didnt have my buddy to say oh no we well get bigger... & that was my first time hunting the muley rut.. You almost need 2 tags, the 1st tag should just get the jitters out... lol..   Have fun & good luck to ya!... Be strong!... Hold out, lasts 7 days well be your best, I wouldnt even get there tell the 10th if I were you!...  :twocents:
Their going down!!!

geezus ! and I still have 4 months left,
with general deer and elk in between
I also drew a Taneum rifle cow tag so I am going to use that to hopefully dump some meat so I can hold out
love it
