Skagit Quality - first time drawing!
« on: June 19, 2013, 10:06:42 PM »
Hey all,

I drew a Skagit (GMU426) Quality tag this year! I am stoked because that unit is a lot like the High buck hunts/alpine backpacking that I am used to, however, I am not familiar with what the resident deer are like and ins-and-outs of the unit. Anyone have any pointers?

Congrats to all of the lucky ones this year!

I suppose I could have been more specific in my ask for help...with 20 historically closing anywhere from the end of October to December, I don't think I can count on it being open during the tag dates. That being said, access to the unit gets cut considerably, unless you have a snowmobile. If anyone has hunted that unit in November, how do you get around that fact? Or do you just stick to the westernmost/easternmost side?

Thanks again!

I think rodney is talking about the hwy 20 gates.

The problem with his tag is the migration. But you could catch abench buck in the high country.

Good luck I hope you find a monster

Based on some feedback I've gotten: it's gonna be hard, it's gonna be snowy...and I'm stoked!
Thanks again for all of the feedback - keep it coming!

I realize that 20 is usually close by the end of November due to avalanche danger, but has anyone been out on the trails in November? How much snow is usually on the trails at that time? I will be out there scouting this summer, but obviously, things will change by November....anyone have some insight?

Thanks head hunter. I will check it out. The other feedback that I've gotten was similar. I think I'll be going after resident blackies or any bench mule bucks that are braving the weather a little later than most.
