if your that disappointed then don't put in again and let someone else get drawn that will appreciate it. This is called hunting not killing. Like someone has said, hunting is not a race its a marathon. Be happy and enjoy it. Some people don't have the opportunity because of health or other reasons. 2500 miles. Sounds like a lot of road hunting.

Who asked your opinion? You didn't hunt with me, you don't know what the frick I did or where I hunted. This unit is mother fricking huge.  I hunted High to low and all between. I drove roads because a fricking mule deer can jump from one county to another in a matter of hours. I walked soo many miles, I had to buy a new pair of boots. I had to have my wife drive my snow tires 200 miles so I could get up to where these so-called monster bucks were residing. I can't believe that after all I went through, there are still db's on this site that think I DIDN'T DO ENOUGH.

Can't argue with math  2500 miles, 14 days = 178.6 miles a day.....

Don't be mad at Fishnut, peoples opinion :twocents:

I'd be happy with that buck.  I spent $180 dollars on a 2 point BT this year

Coulda sworn people warned you about snow and bad roads! But you didnt seem to want to listen! Did you expect paved roads and pixies? Is that the biggest buck you had a chance at?
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?

You post your experience in the 2nd best late modern tag area and you  are going to get a lot of opinions.
Should have waited until you had 15 points and pulled a tag for the other side of the river, like I did.  the biggun's didn't have a need to cross of over to your place.

This is hilarious....   :chuckle:

But the wife drove 200 miles with some snow tires.  They should be near the road.   :chuckle:

lol damn dude calm down. It's called hunting, yeah you drew a great tag but that doesn't mean you are for sure going to kill a 180 class buck, I don't care how many miles you drove your truck or hiked or how much money you spent. It's hunting and there are no garentees. I had an archery bull tag and I hunt 10 days hard, put over 2000 miles on my truck and don't even know how much I hiked but I still didn't kill a bull. I was sort of upset because it was less than I expected, but I learned a lot and I have a lot more respect for the animals I hunt.

I haven't been to the Entiat myself, but from what I've gathered just by reading on here and elsewhere, it's sort of the Toutle of mule deer hunts.  The chance for a great buck is there but it will take things falling into place (e.g. weather) otherwise you're looking at lots of solid but not spectacular animals.  Just because a hunt has 4200 applicants doesn't mean it's anything special.  In all actuality hunts like that with tons of applicants have in general seen their best days already, but people still put in for them because they heard it was good 6, 8, 10 years earlier and still see all the applicants applying.  :twocents:

You posted all the info and opened yourself up to "internet criticism."  Sounds like you learned two lessons this year:
 1.  The Entiat rifle tag is joke.
 2.  Don't post a story like you did and expect sympathy from people you don't know.  Next time keep the story simple and show a pic if you deem necessary.

Not sure you understand how nice that buck really is.  I know a lot of people this year that ate tag soup and or killed a doe to fill the freezer.  I for one was really happy with the doe I shot with my bow and believe it was a true trophy....sure everyone wants big horns, but that just doesn't happen every year.

Those late migratory tags are tougher than people expect. More times than not...the tag holder does NOT end up with the buck they'd hoped for. In this case, still sounds like a fun hunt, in a great unit, during the best time of year. That's still a respectable buck...congrats to ya non the less.

I have never been soo disappointed in my life. 10 years worth of preference points, 1 of 25 permits and 4200 applicants later, the number 1 rifle permit hunt in the state for migratory mule deer during the rut and this is all I have to show for it. I saw 250 bucks and 600 does in 19 days of hard hunting, but not a single mule deer buck worth putting on the wall. I popped a tire, busted my muffler off, tore off a molding, smashed my rear bumper into my truck bed, and almost slid off the side of a cliff about 2 dozen times. I have blisters where nobody should have blisters. I put 2500 miles on my truck in 2 weeks. I spent thousands of dollars in Entiat for this so-called "HUNT OF A LIFETIME" and all I have to show for it is a 3 point buck that I could have shot during the general season. The only reason this one died is because it was conveniently located next to the road.
That animal deserves more respect than this, what a unbelievably poor attitude you are displaying with these type of comments, wow!

I agree. I would hope that once the "dust settles" and he has time to wind down and think back, he feels better about his experience, and his buck he chose to shoot.

You Sir are a person that just doesn't get it. And a reason myself and a lot of guys on here that know these units and consistently find the caliber of bucks you thought you deserved do not or are hesitate to help guys any more.  Your trophy was the opportunity to hunt for 19 days in some of the most beautiful country, the chance to glass and find 250 bucks and the hope that one of those would be a "trophy"  All I can think is the deer gods knew that your horrible attitude deserved the karma you received.  Its just to bad that gorgeous buck you shot had to be a wasted.

:yeah: :yeah: :yeah:,...Huntnphools comment above is spot on!....Any buck you point the business end of your weapon at and make the decision to put it down deserves respect. killing it just to say you killed something because of the time, effort and money you put into the hunt and then not being happy with the buck is disrespectfull to the animal. IMHO :twocents:...congratulations on a beautiful buck......After reading the original post and and story,i actually felt bad for the buck.
