guys attitudes that a monster is gonna be easy blow me away . I could see driving from say wenachee in the morning and then up a ridge and hunting all day . I don't see the 178 per day thing . that country is best served behind a spotter in my mind slowly picking apart the hill side . If this gentleman wopuld have passed that nice three he would have had a chance to grow into one of the booners . there's only one way to get big bucks , let them live to become big bucks . maybe this will keep guys from applying next year  :chuckle:

Those late migratory tags are tougher than people expect. More times than not...the tag holder does NOT end up with the buck they'd hoped for. In this case, still sounds like a fun hunt, in a great unit, during the best time of year. That's still a respectable buck...congrats to ya non the less.

Muley slayer, I would agree. Lets get something out of the way first and foremost. Up until day 15, I was enjoying the heck out of the hunt. I knew it was just a matter of time before I saw a buck worthy of shooting. I did see a big buck, but I'm starting to second guess if it was a figment of my imagination. He was with several "Plan B" bucks that I kept finding, but never found him again. I will say that near the end of my hunt I had figured out most of the migration routes and started hunting those hard. That being said, shortly after the 15th, the bucks stopped chasing does and just started keeping them corralled wherever the bucks decided to hold up.  By the 17th, I was seeing all my nicer bucks on private property. I will say that I should be able to guide someone for this hunt next year with my eyes closed. If someone has to pick a time frame to hunt and you can't hunt the entire 20 days, I would say go from the 7th to the 14th.

No doubt those roads have been talked about time and time again not fun at times . that's why I avoid the swakane in the late archery season . with the ice and the crown those hills arnt very forgiving . no doubt like you said there are certin routes and ridge lines one should hang out on . a guy can hike in and hour or two before light from the bottom and be in good hunting without killing him self , there's my favorite spot I just assume hike into , good luck next time

This was a great humor read after getting off of work. I do like the comment on the math doesn't lie. You can take it a step farther if you want to prove how much time he actually spent in his truck.

Average was 178 miles per day, already been determined. Daylight hours this time of year over here would be about 6:30 to 4:30 pm (averaged out for time change). So he has 10 hours of daylight, but lets give him the benefit of the doubt that he was driving an hour before and an hour after, and add those from the 10 hours of daylight giving him 12 hour days which will lower his total miles driven per hour. So:

178 miles average per day/ 12 total hours in the day spent hunting= an average of 14.83 miles driven per hour. How can you have time to hike (wearing a pair of boots out as you said) while still averaging 14.83 miles driven per hour on mountain roads, some with snow on them?

Now before you freak out saying I know nothing of this area I will throw out my disclaimer. I live in this unit, I drew the tag in 2001 and shot a 150" buck that I had mistook for bigger one that I had just seen in the same area.  The last week I have been watching a 3 point on the same hillside running doe's that is between 24-28" wide depending on how big his ears are. This all from the entiat river road, not putting on the massive amount of miles that you have done.

It really sounds like you had unreal expectations that big deer were in every draw. This year was tougher than normal weather wise, clear nights with not a lot of snow. But I can say this and know that I 100% mean it, you got the buck that your attitude deserves. This site has numerous younger viewers/members and your language is completely unacceptable.

Also I laughed when I read that you damaged your truck. you obviously don't know what to expect when it comes to late season hunts on ground that is not flat.  Stick to whitetails and flat land so your insurance rates don't go through the roof

You dumb mf's are assuming that I am camped up in the entiat. I live 200 miles from the entiat. 15 miles from idaho. Sooooo, how the --EDITED FOR SWEARING--KNOCK IT OFF--can you do the math without knowing the situation? I'm glad you live in that , but if you think that pend oreille county is flat, then you need to come up for a hunt in our neck of the woods. Pretty sure you will need something with a track on it though. I never saw a single warden while I was out there. Guess I'll just have to shoot one on private property next to the entiat river.

They were both bigger than this buck, but they were half a mile from the closest road.

I don't know you sfrenger and honestly hope I never have the chance to meet you. I don't post much but you are the totally opposite of what huntwa is about. You are giving sportsmen a bad name every time you type.
