Thanks for getting this one back on track and showing some Entiat bucks.

Great looking deer there newguy.  I don't see how you were able to use photoshop so well and make it look steeper than it really ease and eliminate the road that you must of shot that from.  Just kidding nice looking deer and way to bring back the memories of how steep that season is, I am guessing you earned that one, way to go.

That definately meets my definition of a trophy.

I don't think people are denying that it is one of the best hunts in the state. Its just that you have to remember its Washington and are game department doesn't manage for quality like some of the other western states. I think if you have a shot anywhere in the state this unit and a handful of others are your best chance at getting the buck you are looking for. Just remember that its not going to be a give me because you drew this tag, you are going to get a 180+ buck. Like I said early the potential is here and it could happen but its not going to be easy. Just seems like you are confident that you are going to notch your tag on a 180 buck. I think others on here are just trying to give you a heads up that its going to be tough, but it could happen with the right luck and if we get the right weather early. Again best of luck really hope you can find what you are looking for.

Depends on your definition of a trophy I guess

Sorry, let me clarify. What are YOUR two favorite QUALITY units to apply for special permits in? Excluding bow permits. I have a bow, but only use it on elk.

Well that's a heck of a buck. That might be a trophy to me. What does he score?

These guys like Hunt and others are just being honest with you.  I know this unit very well, have personally hunted it during this time frame and into december more than most.  Have had the opportunity to have a tag in my pocket, have also been with my dad or buddies on this hunt, raffle hunt, etc over the last few years. We have a wall or two to prove our hard work and luck. In 2008 I hunted wiht my dad 20 straight days sun up to sun down.  We saw one buck that was for sure over 180 B&C.  That was the last day with a few hours to go.  There is only a handful of true 175 + typical B&C bucks in this unit.  You might be one of the lucky guys and be driving up the road and he will be standing there on the hill at 50 yards on day one or you might hunt your butt off for 20 days and never see anything over 160.  there is many of guys from rifle to bow to Gov tags that dont shoot a buck and eat their tags.(nothing wrong with that)  So from somebody that knows, that lives, that owns land in the heart of the winter range and that has been behind the glass for several of these hunts.  Have a plan, have a goal, put in the time, and stick with your plan.  And for sure you will have the time of your life looking at deer from sun up to sun down. And if you stick to your goal, you may or may not have a tag still in your pocket at the end. But for sure you will have had the hunt of a lifetime.  And that is what it is all about.

Here is what it boils down to sfrenger, You have as far as I am concerned all the info you need about the unit that you can get from the computer. You know the possibility of a 180"+ is out there but you also know its not very likely. You waited along time to draw this tag and more than likely you might not ever have this tag again. And if that means that you eat your tag by holding out for the buck of a lifetime than so be it, there is a lot of respect to be had by doing that, I did it in 2008 in Idaho and ended up killing my best ever buck on the very last morning. Hunt hard goodluck and shoot straight..

Well said to everyone. I have low expectations, but hope for the best. I know it's just a matter of time and luck. Up until this year the only luck I had was all BAD LUCK. Now I find myself wondering which trophy i should spend the most time on. It's starting to look like I should be spending more time and resources going after my pend oreille county whitetail. Wish we could sell our permits. lol

Good luck to ya. Alot of people would give a lot to have that tag. Take a little more pride and confidense with you. You walk outside with your head down and you won't ever see the sun. Do your scouting. Get topo maps. Know where the streams are located. I've seen some pics of incredible deer taken out of there. Mule deer hunting is ALOT different then your whitetails.
