I'm not going to burn my tag until the last day. That buck of raineirs is a nice looking buck, but that would be a last day of the hunt buck for me.
That is not what most consider to be "burning your tag" and to notch your tag with any animal should be considered a honor, regardless the score. :twocents:

Huntin, don't get me wrong, that's a great buck, but it's not a record book buck. Let me put it into perspective for you. 25 permits and 4100 applicants. The liklihood of me ever EVER getting an opportunity like this again is next to none. If I shot that buck on day one and every buck I saw after that was bigger, then I couldn't live with myself. However, if I hunt my arse off for the next 19 days and don't kill a deer, then I would be satisfied. You catch my drift now?
Just sayin, to most "burning your tag" means going home empty handed, not notching it with a buck you consider to be a "last day" buck.

I spent a total of ten days in Montana and ended up shooting a spike.  It was the smallest buck I have ever shot and one of the best hunts I have ever been on.  Saw lots of does and maybe 8 bucks total but I was stoked none the less.  Made some great memories with my friend and brother.

All i can say is i wish i had your tag!!  You got out of it what you put into it. Except it and move on.  Its called hunting. Better yet it is a quallity deer hunt. Move on you filled your tag if you didnt want a 3 pt. why did you shoot it. It will eat well enjoy. Sweet buck and thanks for sharing.

If you don't find value in the hunt itself there is something wrong with you.  Trophy hunts don't always involve trophy deer.  I've shot B&C bucks that mean no more to me than some of the smallest bucks I've shot.  If success is your end all then go shot a monster on some game farm so you can stoke your ego.  My dad would've slapped me silly and took my liscense away if I ever displayed that  type of attitude.  I didn't even have to read your comments, the pic of you scowling next to that beautiful  buck  was enough to know you already got more  then you deserve.  I hope you just posted rashly and time  to reflect will change your perspective.

Congratulations on a successful hunt and it sounds like you gave it more than 100% effort.  I will be more than happy to put your buck on my wall if you don't want it.   On a side note there are some really great resin cast reproduction antlers for sale on the Internet if your just looking for some big antlers.

This was a great humor read after getting off of work. I do like the comment on the math doesn't lie. You can take it a step farther if you want to prove how much time he actually spent in his truck.

Average was 178 miles per day, already been determined. Daylight hours this time of year over here would be about 6:30 to 4:30 pm (averaged out for time change). So he has 10 hours of daylight, but lets give him the benefit of the doubt that he was driving an hour before and an hour after, and add those from the 10 hours of daylight giving him 12 hour days which will lower his total miles driven per hour. So:

178 miles average per day/ 12 total hours in the day spent hunting= an average of 14.83 miles driven per hour. How can you have time to hike (wearing a pair of boots out as you said) while still averaging 14.83 miles driven per hour on mountain roads, some with snow on them?

Now before you freak out saying I know nothing of this area I will throw out my disclaimer. I live in this unit, I drew the tag in 2001 and shot a 150" buck that I had mistook for bigger one that I had just seen in the same area.  The last week I have been watching a 3 point on the same hillside running doe's that is between 24-28" wide depending on how big his ears are. This all from the entiat river road, not putting on the massive amount of miles that you have done.

It really sounds like you had unreal expectations that big deer were in every draw. This year was tougher than normal weather wise, clear nights with not a lot of snow. But I can say this and know that I 100% mean it, you got the buck that your attitude deserves. This site has numerous younger viewers/members and your language is completely unacceptable.

Also I laughed when I read that you damaged your truck. you obviously don't know what to expect when it comes to late season hunts on ground that is not flat.  Stick to whitetails and flat land so your insurance rates don't go through the roof

The number 1 thing you can expect with these tags is actually getting out and being able to hunt without 50 other hunters on the same ridge or mt like it is during the general season. The closest thing to hunting private ground as you can get. This was a very tough year for mature migrating bucks, there was a few down low,( I mean way low) but not many. I actually saw more bucks and bigger bucks last week in the entiat unit in 1 day than I saw in the swakane in 3 weeks if that helps you out any!!! Take the backstraps home and enjoy them.

Coulda sworn people warned you about snow and bad roads! But you didnt seem to want to listen! Did you expect paved roads and pixies? Is that the biggest buck you had a chance at?

Once again......DBs all over this site! I had chains all 4. I had new all season radials. Nobody told me that I would have to chain up to drive in 2 inches of snow. That dirt over there is 90 percent clay. It's literally like driving on snot. How many hunters die every year on that Mckenzie ridge road? That one should be closed off for good.

Hell no that's not the biggest buck, that was a plan "c" buck. I was on the hunt for 2 plan "b" bucks that I had bedded down and was on my way to meet a friend from Chelan that was going to help me kill one of them. They were both bigger than this buck, but they were half a mile from the closest road.

You post your experience in the 2nd best late modern tag area and you  are going to get a lot of opinions.
Should have waited until you had 15 points and pulled a tag for the other side of the river, like I did.  the biggun's didn't have a need to cross of over to your place.

This is hilarious....   :chuckle:

which river, which unit, which hunt?

Seriously Sfrenger.....every time you post you only make yourself look like more of an A-Hole! Yes this thread and recent posts have kept me laughing but at some point I think you should probably just walk away from the keyboard before you make yourself out to be anymore of a tool.
