Washington Mule Deer Rut?
« on: October 15, 2008, 12:35:22 PM »
I have hunted whitetail most of my life, I can give you a week period in my mind where there will always be heavy rutting action. Around the 17th - 24th of Novemeber. Not that they are not in the rut earlier or later these these have always been good times for me. Last year got my buck on the 20th.

So when are mule deer rutting heavy? DO you think it matters if we are talking about mule deer in the wheat fields to deer ontop Sherman Pass?

Thanks for the info... ;)

I have always found that the week with the 13th of november seems to be the best for mule deer rut in the lower okangon valley

It does matter where they are at and the weather situation.  I killed my buck and seen another as you might recall last year on what, the 13th of October and they were FULL IN RUT.    That being rare of course.  Normally the first week of November for Muleys. They tend to rut prior to whitetails.  There are some magical days int he woods when both are rutting.  Thinking thats about the time Timber and I and houndhunter will be hitting the slopes. ;)

I have seen deer fighting opening morning 2nd weekend in october. . .never prior to that but not have alot of experience to back up that theory. . . .never seen bucks chasing does until first week of november. have lots of pictures of bucks chasing and fighting all through november seems like in my area they move down starting the end of october and are concentrated for rut by second weekend of november is the best bet I can say.

I was up the Entiat for 10 days last nov.  We got there on the  8th and the rut was full on.  Slowed way down by the time we left.

Thanks for all the info, I just ordered a new EOS Cannon Camera, I figure if I cant hunt them in the rut it would be cool to get some good pics, maybe track a few cats while Im at it.
