Anyone who flosses is a snagger.  It is that simple.  If you aren't trying to get them to bite, then you must be trying to snag them without them biting.  It doesn't matter it is in the head or the ass, you are a snagger.
Guess Im a snagger then. Might want to stay away from me. :chuckle:

Some people floss because they don't know better.  Others floss when they know better but aren't good enough fisherman to make the fish bite.  Which do you want to be?
Im probably the first one being as I don't have friends or family to teach me. I've learned all from first hand knowledge and never found HW until Jan of this year. I've fished my whole life in lakes and ponds, but never chased salmon until 2011 when I found my love for the outdoors. Definitely learned alot though since then.

It's a method for sure,  but you will get hooked if you try floating some jigs, or bait,  herring, shrimp.  Spoons, spinners are fun,  definitely lots of fun to be had working harder for the fish

Those seem impossible if your anywhere near people. I don't have a boat so I'm always in the rivers, and when the salmon are running, so are the flocks of people to every piece of open river side there is. Im not against those methods at all, but like I said I dont know much about them, size/shape/color/style/technique + problem with other people being around so thick u can barely cast.
One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.

look around,  you will see other guys amongst them actually fishing.  go talk to them,  99.9% of the time they will help you out,  even set you up with something they got in their box.

Hhahaha you guys are killing me ...I have been accused of flossing and read my rights and with eggs and a bobber  :dunno: :chuckle: I can catch salmon with bait anywhere as long as guys are not walking in the flipping water and spooking the hell out of them ....I can see wading in the water as long as you are against the bank and out of sight of the fish ...it just boils my blood when guys walk up in a hole and stand right over top of it thinking they will catch something  :chuckle: I usually like to plunk in big rivers and fish close to the bank ...I have caught many steelhead and Kings on just a bare corky or wing bobber with just shrimp oil on it ...Steelhead and kings will hit Rock Red Bobbers with no bait at all ...as a matter of fact if I am plunking I set my drag loose enough to where when they hit  they instantly take drag ...I had them hit so hard before on bare bobbers they about pulled my pole out of the holder ...This is why you do not leave your drag tight or your pole will be going SNAP 0 !!!

The only problem with that theory is that it is sometimes impossible to decipher whether a fish was indeed trying to bite or was actually flossed.

That was my point.  You said before that you didn't know the difference.  I don't hold that against you, as everyone has to learn sometime.  Others, however, know they are snagging and do it anyway.

If you want to actually catch fish, you will likely need to work at it.  The fish the nisqually bite eggs, but not at the handicap hole with the flossers.  Explore a bit and you will find unmolested fish.  Better yet, don't go to the nisqually at all.  I offered to tell you exactly where to go and to set you up.  It is up to you whether you want to be snagger or not.

Bullkllr - That's bull!  I was talking about people who intentionally floss, such as those fishing for salmon with cannon balls, a corky, and a hook.  I said "if you aren't trying to make them bite, then you must be trying to snag them."  Flossing is not trying to get them to bite.  You are trying to run your line through the fish's mouth until it comes tight and your hook finds the corner of the mouth.

Everyone fouls a fish now and then, and that isn't what I'm talking about.  I foul hook fish twitching jigs, but I also catch the vast majority legitimately as they bit the jig on the drop.  My intent is not to be snagger, even though I occasionally snag fish.

Let me point out that flossing is not illegal  :dunno: as long as the fish is hooked in the head or in the mouth they can not prove you were snagging ...I learned all this from watching it all go down last year ....according to them , the whole river was guilty

There are plenty of things that aren't illegal that also aren't good things to do.  Is that how you set your moral compass of right and wrong?  Willing to do whatever as long as the law won't get you in trouble?

I am just pointing it out ...it all comes down to ethics ..its like me telling you to not shoot a turkey while he is in roost ...Even though it seriously ticks me off when someone does that but it is not against the law ......Like I said I am just pointing it out !

Call me crazy but so far today I'm following BH45's posts and just keep nodding.

Flossing, unless specified by leader lenght restrictions, is not illegal nor is it "snagging".

Do it or don't...up to you.

Explain to me how it is not snagging please?

My defintion of "snagging" when it comes to salmon is the direct intention to foul hook a fish outside the mouth.

When flossing the lure does catch (snag if you wish) in the corner of the mouth.

I see them as two seperate types of fishing. One is legal, one is not.

If you do not agree that is cool with me.....as long as the fishing is done legally then I can't tell someone how to go about it.

Got it.  The distinction of whether it is snagging or not is where you snag the fish (ass or mouth), not whether you snag the fish.
