I would eat dogfish before coyote.

Good reminder, Everyone keep an eye out for fresh roadkill to bring so that Smossy can have a wide range game buffet at the BBQ.  Someone has to come up with a opossum for him to try at least...

in reading this thread I'm even more confused about the rules and regulations.  This will be the first time I will be going salmon fishing with the wife and I'm not sure it is worth the headache to even try now.

SO CONFUSED, head is spinning from all of this and reading 198 pages of regs    :o

Don't think so:

The opossum is unclassified and may be trapped or killed year-round; no permit is necessary. No permit is necessary for the use of live (cage) traps; however, a special trapping permit is required for the use of all traps other than live traps (RCW 77.15.192, 77.15.194; WAC 232-12-142).

Yeah....I get that. One of my friends saw the pic and said he looks sad. I agreed and mentioned that they would be sad as well if a Barnes Triple Shock 150gr blew up their liver, lungs, and one of their shoulders!

the hook will typically be on the outside of the mouth. out of all the salmon/steelhead ive hooked on presentations like jig, bait, ect. none that come to mind were hooked on the outside of the mouth. i have caught fish on corkies corkies/yarn and flies that were hooked outside of the mouth. given the techniques that make fish more or less have to bite all being hooked inside the mouth i can only assume fish hooked outside the mouth are flossed except the oddball here or there.

I've caught a far number of steelhead hooked outside-in when fishing a pink worm.  I think they bite the middle of it and get hooked on the outside in the process.
Agreed. Its one of those techniques that it can happen at times.

a bit part of the difference between drift fishing(actually trying to get fish to bite) and flossing really goes on intent.  unfortunately that's up to the individual to decide, but there's a good chance that if you're using an 8' leader and a single corky for salmon, you aren't finding many willing biters.

you'll hook a few outside the mouth drift fishing from time to time(especially with pink worms, in fact, i lose a lot of steelhead hooked that way because they'll shred the leader from taking the worm sideways) but if you're not trying to increase your odds of lining fish(like not using ultra long leaders, and setting the hook a half dozen times every drift), you aren't flossing.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun
