Al Beisen rifle
« on: June 22, 2013, 09:57:18 PM »
Picked up a 25/05 Ackley Beisen built by the old man in 1963 today! Beautiful XXX black walnut built on a hardened 98 Mauser. Will get pics up on Monday for all to see! Kept my eyes out for on in 270 win ever since I was a kid, reading of the exploits of J.O.C. In every mag I could find! But the 25-06 was just too pretty to let pass thru my hands..!

Is it a K98 or a FN Commercial? I heard he did more FNs than 98s, same action but without the thumb cut on the opposite side of the action. FNs are worth a lot more $$

by that last photo, it's military.  you can see a hint of thumb cut over the barrel...

That's what I was thinking about the "Thumb cut" , but I'm not expert on Mauser actions.

I have a custom built 25/06 built on a K98 action as well... Don't know much about it other than its one of the best shooting rifles I have ever shot... Ended up getting it on a trade a while back.

But that black walnut is gorgeous... That's an awesome find.

should be a good one!  do you know the round count?  shouldn't be too bad judging by the condition, but throat erosion can happen with with hot loads.
