Granite Falls area
« on: October 15, 2008, 06:51:28 PM »
Anyone hear of any good public places to hunt blacktail around the Granite Falls area.  Looking to find a close drive from Edmonds to hunt.  Have not hunted on the west side since champion tree farm was sold.  Too expensive for a permit from Raineer Timber now.

go past granite falls and there is almost nothing but public land...tons of it.

i know you posted before asking for closer areas to you.
have you looked into whidbey at all??
how far are you lookinig to travel? up snoqualmie is decent and so can be some areas just up stevens from you. you can also find some bruisers in the firearm restricted areas only a hop skip and jump from you now.

I would not suggest Whidbey, only about 250 acres of public land there and not alot of deer stick around there (wonder why). My recent hunting trip to Whidbey was the first time i have not seen a deer while on the island (go figure)

if you go onto the county wedsite you can find pockets of state land and public land still available for the public to use.
your right though. not alot but there is some.
you would be better off heading east from you.

Thanks for all the input, it's hard to come back and hunt the west side after hunting east for the last ten years, it is getting too expensive to travel to mulie and white tail country these days but I still would love some meat in the freezer.  As far as the firearm restricted areas, I cant seem to find a definition in the regs, could anyone elaborate?

Firearm Restriction Areas
The firearm restriction areas listed have been
established by the Fish and Wildlife Commission.
Centerfire and rimfire rifles are not legal for hunting
in these areas.
In firearm restriction areas, hunters may hunt only
during the season allowed by their tag.
Archery tag holders may hunt during
archery seasons with archery equipment.
Muzzleloader tag holders may hunt during
muzzleloader seasons with muzzleloader
equipment except in the GMU 652
restriction area outlined for King County.
Modern firearm tag holders may hunt
during modern firearm seasons with bows
and arrows, muzzleloaders, or revolvertype
handguns meeting equipment
restrictions, or legal shotguns firing slugs
or buckshot.
Firearm Restriction Areas
by County

I put in the 3 closest to you.

Snohomish
All areas west of Highway 9, until the intersection
of Highway 9 and Highway 2, then east along
Highway 2 to Highway 203, then all areas west of
Highway 203 to the Snohomish/King County line.
Skagit
All mainland areas and islands in Skagit County
west of I-5 and north of the Skagit/Snohomish
County line.
King
This area restricted to archery only. The following
portion of GMU 652 (Puyallup): Beginning at
the intersection of Hwy 410 and southeast MudMountain Dam Rd near the King-Pierce Co. line
N of Buckley; E on southeast Mud Mountain Rd
to 284th Ave SE; N on 284th Ave SE to Hwy 410;
W on Hwy 410 to point of beginning.

hope this helps  :hello:

Hope you don't mind me jumping in on this, but anyone maybe want to help point a guy in the Snoqualmie direction? Hoping to maybe get a hunt in during the week if time allows. Only hunted the west side once, and that was down south. Not really sure where all to go within about an hour of Seattle.
