I wasn't going to comment on this but have decided to anyway. As much as much of the native "hunting" makes me mad, this seems to be different. They shot a spike which I think is better then a cow that can make many more elk in the future or a mature bull that didn't get to pass along his genes. It also appears from what you said that they took and are hopefully using the whole animal. As long as it was within their sanctioned seasons then I don't have a problem with this.

It doesnt really matter what was standing there, they would have killed it anyways.

Whiskey I see your passion for hunting that's great I have the same passion what I am saying your not  going to change there hunting way's there are  bad tribal hunter's and good one's  white river elk herd is bigger right now because of permit drawing and different tribal hunting way's killing cat's is huge for us hunter's. When you see cow's standing in clearcut's you know there not being shot at that's good to see a few ceremonial hunt's so be it I rather see that then  a herd of cow's being killed like they did back in the day it could be alot worse. Also have you ever hunted elk up there in past year's because it sucked.

I will say the herd numbers are way up, "we" made it a special permit unit and limited hunting pressure substantially. Have the other 11, or whatever the number is, parties done the same? That's an honest question, it sure doesn't seem like it when I see tribal rifle hunting starting in the summer months, then fall and continuing threw winter, not to mention these ceremonial hunts....

I can see all points. I'm not completely close minded, give me some credit. past all the argument about shooting bulls or cows, if its there right, a few ceremonial hunts isn't so bad, rather a small bull than a cow or branch bull ext ext... at the end of the day, my opinion is that ELK should not be getting shot in June!!! end of story as far as I'm concerned.

Take a nice drive through the Muck reservation sometime.  I cannot speak to your taste in women, and I love hunting as much as anyone on here.  I just would have to draw the line at putting any woman I have seen out that way in my bed  .

A question: Was this on State or Federal land? If it was on private land they have no treaty rights. At least that is my understanding.

are u kidding me? the Indians can do whatever wherever they want! when it was still wherehouser the mucks signed off on there timber sales. my ol man drove log truck for 28 yrs there and when they turned it into a pay to hunt, "buy a pass area", they charged the employees but the Indians got them for free. hasn't got any better. they have "rights" everywhere cause nobody can do a thing about it, and they know it

This is no surprise to  me. This happens  every year. Think about all the gut piles the yotes have eaten and no one seen them.   someone should start a " gut piles found in the woods" thread to see how many people see this year before hunting season starts?
