Black Bear Hunting Literature for Washington State?
« on: June 24, 2013, 10:39:53 AM »
Looking for recommendations on some reading for black bear habitat, behavior, and hunting techniques.  I've done a lot of reading on grizzlies (just out of curiosity) but I'm interested in starting to hunt black bear and need to start soaking in the info.

Hunting with a rifle.

Thanks all!

Start with the intro to bear topic in the top of the bear section. Not to make it sound simple becuase it obviously isn't....they are silly bears after all....but really a great place to start and it's free! Good luck this year and I hope you whack one.

Try and find the book "Education of a Bear Hunter" by Ralph Flowers.  Old, but still a great read.

Yeah, a great read, but come on...he was stumbling upon bears around every corner. No fair! :chuckle:

Good book.

Two books I have read are:

1. Black Bear Hunting by Richard P. Smith.

2. Black Bear Hunting by Gary Lewis and Lee Van Tassel.
