Elk crockpot recipies
« on: March 06, 2016, 04:25:31 PM »
So I have a roast or two left, steaks, and burger. We like to cook with a crockpot however, I'm looking for a new recipie to try. Any suggestions?

I always like to cook my deer and elk roasts in a crockpot. It's not very fancy, just salt and pepper with some garlic and chopped up carrots, taters, and onions. Pour in some beef stock and cook it on low 8-10 hours. If you are looking to do something different you could always crockpot either roast or steaks and then shred and either mix in bbq sauce and serve it on buns like a pulled pork sandwich, or stuff the meat into a tortilla and make some shredded game tacos. Hopefully some others can share some of their recipes!

Cream of mushroom soup and a splash of Worcestershire sauce as a base.
Add whats available when you feel like it.

It's not crockpot but still easy with a roast. Thaw roast, pat dry and then cover with olive oil. Rub with desired seasonings, I like black pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, and red pepper flakes. Let that marinate overnight then take out about 1/2 hour before cooking. In cast iron skillet sear each side of roast for about 2 minutes, trying not to put holes in roast or else it will lose juices. Bake for about an hour at 350 degrees. Remove from oven, let stand about 10 minutes while reheating cast iron skillet. Slice roast and sear slices for about 30 seconds then serve.

I like deer and antelope in the crock pot, but have never had crockpot elk that wasn't too dry for my taste.  Our elk roasts are usually marinated and cooked on the grill indirect/350.  Internal temp to 120-130 by preference.  Wrap in foil and let sit for 10-15 minutes.  No such thing as a bad cut of meat that way!

We also use roasts as fajita or stirfry strips.  Broccoli elk stirfry with Walla Walla sweets and sticky Niko Niko rice is one of our favorites.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

This is a new favorite of mine. Easy , different, and delicious. If you like Chinese food this will be a hit.

Crock pot elk and broccoli

1.5-2 lbs elk steak

1 cup beef broth

1/2 cup soy sauce

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

3 cloves minced garlic

1 tablespoon ground ginger ( optional)

4 tablespoons corn starch

4 tablespoons water

Broccoli and whatever other vegetables you want

Mix broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, and sesame oil well in crock pot. Cut steak into preferred bite size pieces and add to pot, mix well. Cook on low 6-8 hrs, carefully stirring halfway through ( meat will be fall apart tender). When close to done saute' broccoli and other vegetables until softened. Mix corn starch and water and add to crock pot, stir well. Add vegetables to crock pot and stir. Viola! Homemade elk Chinese food ! Serve over rice or noodles. I like to add sesame seeds and crushed red pepper to mine . Try spicy sesame oil for something different. The last time I did this the elk fell apart like pulled pork. I never thought I would be complaining about my elk being too tender! No chance of drying out either

Enjoy
