Arrow weight???

My older brother just got his first compound.  Its a Martin silencer 70#.  He bought ics hunters 400 in a haste to get shooting. They are 29.5" long. They weigh 8.4 grains per inch.  I don't have a grain scale and want to know if the knock,insert, fletching 3 blazers and 125 broadheads will bring him to legal hunting weight???  Any help would be great as he's worried he just bought to light of arras.  Thank for any help.

I think 420 grains for 70#. 70 x 6=420.  400 spine is probably wrong.  340 ics a better choice. Probably too light.

The guys at sportsmans are retarded when asked for hunting arrows they give him 400 ics and cut them too short.  60$ and they probably won't take them back either since they're already cut.  What a bunch of d bags.  It would be nice if there was an archery shop in Olympia.  They closed wholesale sports and now every one is retarded and rude.  Mike and ray at wholesale knew there stuff.  I can shoot the arrows he got as there perfect weight for me but he's pissed.

Do three blazer veins a nock and an insert vibrake weigh 24 grains?  I think I had the same grain arrows last year and they weighed 418 at 28".the arrow w/o anything but the 125 broadhead should weigh 360.  I just hope I can even hunt with them with a 384 requirement at 64# pull.

Definitely wrong spine.  Especially with the 125 grain point.  At 29.5" just about any popular 340 spine arrow should make WA weight limits.  Great bow btw.

My arrow weight would need to be 384.  At 28 " They weigh 360 bare shaft weight?  I believe the same spine w knock and Fletching and insert weighed 418 last year.  Is this a good arrow for my set up?  I shoot a 64# bow tch tribute btw.

That's a high performance bow.  29.5"/400 spine would be best around 50#.  Even the 340 would be light at 70#.  340 falls in to being just about perfect around that 64# mark with 125 grain head.  Of course I'm talking about the Martin Silencer.  Your bow may be different.

You might even look at 300 spine shafts with that poundage/draw length. I've been shooting a 28" 340 for years at 70lbs but could never broad head tune. They shot well for me with field points and I'd simply make a slight sight adjustment for broadheads. Bryan(Rad Sav) talked me into trying some 300s and I haven't looked back. Now broad heads group right with my field points. Field Pt groups even tightened up and they're more forgiving when I screw up.
Here's a pair of Axis 300's. The pink/black fletch is wearing a 125gr Viper Trick and the Orange/Red is a field pt. Both shot from 50yds.

I'm the archery lead at the Federal Way Sportsman's Warehouse, and I am embarrassed by this topic.  Clearly they are the wrong spine for that set-up.   I sure hope this didn't happen in my store. 

In any case take them back with the receipt, and explain the problem to the store manager.

He'll probably call the puyallup store and see about returning them.  It was not federal way.  The federal way store had a kid with a Copenhagen can attached to his hat....  Chewing is cool and all but gimmie a break!  When asked about bows he knew nothing and said diamond was the best choice.  He was too lazy to order a Martin in left hand and said they where backed out for months.  Supposedly he no longer works at the federal way store but I don't know.  Old dog if you are who I think you are than you were kind polite and knowledgable when I did speak with you.  Thank for the help.

It's true, that young man is no longer working for us.  As far as the special order, there is a procedure we use to determine if the product is available to order.  That procedure obviously wasn't followed.  Would you still like me to check for you?

No thank you.  He has already purchased a bow.  He is taking his arrows and bow back to the pu store.  He asked for Scottie to lengthen his draw length.  Scottie shortened his bows draw and then cut arrows to that length.  He also kept his f 4 mod and now my brother has two f3 mods.  My brother put a f6 mod in the bow but the cam stopper Allen head is a size we don't have so it still needs adjusted so the bow let's off the entire 80% that it should.  First step should have been to measure his arms and get proper draw length established.  Since he shortened it instead of lengthened it I would assume that the arrows will be exchanged.

This is a pretty interesting thread. I shoot a 70# 31" arrow and have never seen an arrow shaft for that bow/length in a store or pro shop in my life. They have always had to be ordered.

?  I am confused. The 300 spine?

The 300 spine or weight whatever the terminology these days are for the length/poundage of that bow. If I am not mistaken, from a couple of manufactures it requires the 250 but it has been a while since I looked at the charts of the different manufacturers. All of the retail outlets that I've been in have never had an arrow for that a bow that drew 70# and a 30+ inch arrow.

They sell 250 and 300 at most outlet stores.  May I suggest Larry at federal way sportsmans warehouse.  He could help you with a good arrow for your setup.
