Couldn't manage to draw any non-elk tags, but the elk tags rained on me.

I'm pretty pumped about the Bethel Muzzy Bull hunt.....   I just like that area.

I've spent quite a bit of time up there, but not in the last 5-6 years, so the scouting weekends are going to be coming fast and furious!

Having said that, if any kind souls want to PM me their opinion of some nice spots to check out, I've been known to be a grateful guy with a long memory and a willingness to help others.

WHOOOOOOOOO    HOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Thanks ,

Dan

This will be a fun hunt for you, I hope someday I can draw a modern tag for Bethel.

Congrats, I have hunted the Bethel unit for years with many nice bulls seen. Get up there and scout and you will find your bull. All the way up oak creek to little rattle snake and every where in between.

Now for my rant, 3 elk special permits for one elk tag. Seems like a waste to me. Nothing against you at all, just our state and draw system. Good luck on your hunt, they are there.

Yep, we have over 40 years of hunting that country and have seen some nice bulls back in there. He will be just fine, I am sure he will get a good starting point to get started   :chuckle: :chuckle:   e-mail sent

He applied for three and drew all three. He can of course only fill one. Three tags granted = one animal = two tags that won't get filled = two guys (or girls) that won't get tags. Not his fault, just the way it shaked out.

Sounded like he was gonna fill all three.  My bad.   Burning a cow tag isn't the worst but losing out on a Alkali bull would be a shame.

I'll be in Bethel with my muzzy trying too find a cow or a spike. I'll keep an eye out. What are your expectations?

I'd hunt both the bull permits. You drew both, might as well use both. Alkali has a better season. Starts September 22nd, Bethel is October 1st.

I'd hunt at least the first two or three days in the Alkali. You'll hit th peak of the rut that way.

With Bethel you will be catching the tail end of the rut. Both are good permits, don't waste them.

I was telling Dan-O that a 290 - 320 class bull out of Bethel should be pretty obtainable for him. Not sure what is in the other unit since I have pretty much hunted Bethel my entire 40+ years of elk hunting. We have seen some studs in there.

Dan-O, is a good guy too, we met up during Mule Deer season and hunted together last year. I know he will put some effort into this gift.... tag

I set a very standard for myself.......    until a marginal representation of the species shows up.   Then all bets are off!

Seriously, I hope for a good 6x6.   I've held out before and it's paid off 2 times out of 3 so I think I can hold out for at least the first 3-4 days.    Good to me means 290ish or better.
