anyone know any good pheasant areas around Ellensburg?
« on: October 16, 2008, 07:52:48 PM »
Just moved here this summer with my GSP and i am going to try and get the two of us into some birds.  I don't know the area super well and i live in Bellevue.  I was thinking about trying some of the public hunting lands over around Ellensburg.   Anyone have an feedback on the area for me?  Im not looking for your special spots or anything im just trying to get a feel for the area or any suggestions that you might have would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll need to go a little further east. The closest would be either around the Quincy area, or Moses Lake. There are pheasants around Ellensburg, but almost all on private land. I would go to the Department of Fish & Wildlife land west of Moses Lake. This may be a bad year for wild birds but if so, they at least do release pheasants on the public land in that area, so you should be able to get into a few birds. Expect to have lots of company.

Keep in mind that they don't release birds for the opener

Near Ellensburg is a bird ranch, Reecer Creek.
They will release birds on their property for you and your dog.
Not a bad deal if that's whay you want.
Nice birds, nice people.
Let me know if you figure something else out and need a partner.

Durr road, Two release sites.  Ran into a deer hunter up top and he told me he saw two roosters standing in the road next to the release site.  Good Luck

Me and my bro shot 3 rooster's yesterday by the Wenas release site and saw a few others...they weren't there on opening weekend of quail.

Anyway, there is another release site closer to e-burg in the L.T. Murray.  Check it out at the wdfw website and you can locate all of the pheasant release sites.
