Attempted Moon Picture
« on: July 24, 2013, 12:08:52 PM »
I didn't realize how hard it actually was to take a quality photo of the moon. I pulled off a side road driving home last night to try to get it as it was rising and super orange. It was really beautiful, the pictures - not so much  :chuckle:

Those look better than the ones I've tried to take.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

The moon is tricky. It's so bright, you have to think in terms of daylight shooting. Your first shot is a great effort for standing on the side of the road without a tripod! I shot this picture a couple of months ago. Tripod and a remote or timer are a must. ISO 100 f/11 1/250 seconds. 300mm L with 1.4 extender.

 that's awesome! What camera do you use? I still have yet to get myself a DSLR/SLR camera, my partial manual high zoom digie camera doesn't always cut it ;)

I'm using the Canon T2i. It does a pretty decent job and is fairly inexpensive . I'm saving up for a Canon 7D.

Glad it wasn't Smossy's moon. I didn't know what to expect when I checked the subject!

If you can zoom in close enough I've always liked the not "full" moon, it easier to get the craters, at least for me.
this was taken with a kodak point and shoot. Nice pictures everyone, I love taking moon pics
