Not all file extensions from trail cams will work in your cameras. Some cameras will give you an error message so try it at home first.

Definitely try it out at home first. Pull card from tcam, view in camera and then put it back in tcam and verify that it will continue to work.

Some of my tcams won't read an sd card after it has been in my digital camera. They need to be formatted on the pc or in the tcam before they work again.

You've gotten some great advice so far.  I'll add something entirely different: I recommend a light weight climbing device. You'll get great pics and keep your camera safer if you elevate it above the average Joe's reach.  Remember, out of sight out of mind.  And I saw a YouTube video where they did research on camera placement and found that bucks shy away from the cameras if they're too low.  Not because of scent, rather they hypothesized the trail camera glass lens may appear to them as predator eyes. I'D, I can't tell you what a deer thinks but it's something to think about.  Get your up high keep it safe and you may find you get more pictures of the elusive bucks.

I'm on it.  The best way to keep everyone honest is to avoid giving "that one guy" a chance to be dishonest.  Fear of getting ripped off is the primary reason I hadn't made the jump into trail cams yet.

I am no trailcam expert yet but I think people who are getting their cams ripped off are putting them obvious places or off a well beaten path . I think if a guy finds some well used game trails and places them there he will have a much better chance of the average guy finding them . If you place them along a grade where someone could possibly walk by and find them I would find a game trail and follow it back into the bush a ways and then set them ..It has worked well for me and in heavily traveled places .. I think when a guy is baiting he is making his own trails and people will find them ..Same down fall as a pot grower  :yike: :chuckle:

I've had luck with fertilizing my trails with a common 15/15/15. Use a different route each time.  If you notice a trail starting sprinkle a little fertilizer and stay off it.  I try my best to stay off the game trails whenever possible. Which means walking threw the thick stuff.  I've had plenty of people pictures but rarely do they notice the cam that I can tell. Sofar all people pics have been honest hunters that have not touched my cams.mostly modern seasons.  I use python cables and a little Locke on the cam. If they want it they will get it but I try to make it a pain in the butt best I can.

I've never had an over head cam spotted that I can tell from photos.
