No Pee in my Suzuki DT20
« on: July 03, 2013, 06:05:29 PM »
Hi All,
I recently got a used 16ft smokercraft and 20hp SUzuki 80s DT20, both had been sitting for about 5 years.  Got the motor to turn over runs fine, but just a little dribble of water comming from the pee hole.  Dropped the lower unit off impeller looks fine, soaked everything with engine tuner, blew compressed air and engine tuner/WD40 through the pee spout, put it all back together and still nothing...  Any suggestions as were to go from here would be greatly appreciated cause it looks like im going to rowing out to my crabbin spots this weekend.  Thanks for reading.

Did you remove the spout and clean it?  Run the engine with it removed?

the engine cooling passages are probably corroded and clogged. remove cover, clean passages, then replace cover with new gasket

I would replace the impeller.  It may look fine but if it is too stiff, or installed incorectly, you could have problems.  Also make sure whatever tubing brings the water to the motor is sealed and goes all the way.

Thanks a lot for the advice everyone.

Did you remove the spout and clean it?  Run the engine with it removed?

I shot compressed air through it along with penetrating oils and water, I did not see any way to remove the spout though.  I did try to push wire up though it while it was running.

I cannot figure out how to find the cooling passages, If you mean the tubes that lead from the impeller houseing up into the motor, it appears clean is there a cover or somthing that I am not seeing?

Lokidog you may be right about this, after fudgeting, I dropped the lower end to show my buddy that the impeller was fine, and it was torn to peices in there.  Im going to try and get a new impeller tomorow and see if that does the trick.

Thanks again for the advice all, if there is anything else I should check let me know but I hope I am close to heading out on the sound!

Some impellers can be tricky to seat properly.  Be sure to turn it into place so the wings are curled the proper direction.  If unclear, remove spark plug wire, or make sure engine is in OFF position and pull the starter cord.  This will tell you which direction the shaft rotates if you can see it while it is engaged.

I am no expert but have had to deal with impeller issues on my old Johnsons.
