RAIN ON MY PARADE! UPDATE!
« on: July 03, 2013, 07:00:50 PM »
So about a week ago I asked about a set of Leupold Rings on old weaver bases if they would fit. got the rings today and you guys were totally right they fit like a glove :). so Im all super stoked to get my new scope on and got a big ol grin on my face...then i tried to put the scope on and the front ring is too far foward and because the rings have the cross bar I cant move them back :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash:. AHHHHHHHH!!!!! I hate this part! So I guess Im gunna have to find a replacement base for the front thats longer or use rings that dont have the cross bar. :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: It never ever occured to me that the front bell was so much bigger than the old scope. well back to cabelas website and find a set of bases lol.

Any way you could turn one of the bases to move the slot?  I've seen a few of the bases that don't center the slot over the screws and you can turn a base (usually the rear) such that it moves the slot closer to the front.

Unfortunately the front base is square and only has the cross slot through the middle. I took a look at my other 700 and the front and back rings are mounted flush with the ejection port and that's what I think needs to happen with this one. its no ones fault but my own, I tried to save some money and got too eager too fast and should have double checked. just a major bummer and I put in an email to leupold to see what they recommend, don't want to make the same mistake twice.

Might look at a one piece picatinny base... That way you can put rings wherever you need to on it.

Weaver makes a picatinny base that is ~$35 and is a solid good base... They also make it in a 20MOA as well...

I found a one piece base that I think may work but I think Im just gunna go to Alice and Carry tomorrow and have them take a look. mybe even mount it up for me. sucks cause I don't like going to other people for such simple stuff but I don't want to order anymore wrong parts.

Got my gun back took it out this weekend, sighted perfect! I only had to move the crosshair 2 inches left! Alice and Carry did a great job on the mounting and bore sighting, recommending them forever!

can someone explain to me what exactly is the difference or the advantage of the 20moa rail?

20 degree base has an angle to it so that your scope has more vertical adjustment for long range shooting.
