Rem, Moss ?
« on: October 17, 2008, 11:07:00 AM »
I am looking at the Remington 870 and the Mossburg 935 in 3 1/2 12 ga.

I don't have a preference between pump and semi auto so that isn't  the deciding factor for me.

Which would you get and why?

(don't tell me Browning, or Benelli, or.... because I am choosing between these two only)

Thanks!

870... better quality IMO.  I have a Moss 835 pump and it is definitely not as well made as the 870s I've owned in the past.

One disclaimer, I have heard that the 870s have gone down in quality a bit... more the lower end ones.  The Wingmasters are still really well made.

870's have a time tested design that dates back the 50's or 60's, (not sure cuz i wasnt born yet) they are easy to field strip and are as tuff as it gets without going to a tank like the nova. (which also shoots 3.5 shells if your interested)

I love my benelli nova but it still feels nothing like my 870.  870 has more of a classical feel to it.

hunters love 870's
law enforcement love's 870's
military loves 870's

according to the remington website the 870 express and the wingmaster are identical besides the quality of wood in the stock

my uncle's mossburg blew up on him if that helps  :chuckle:

moss sent him a replacement barrel when he contacted them, when he received it he fixed the gun and sold it to buy an 870

Great!  I have an old 870 in 2 3/4 and love it, I just want a bit more gun for geese, so I will stick with
the 870 in 3 1/2.

thanks for the input.

that was quick. when you go to pick one up look through all of them at the different grains of the stocks cuz sometimes you can come out with a real nice looking one. my buddy got one with some awesome grain.

That could be the case.  Last time I looked, however, the trigger mechanism housing was much different.  The Express had gone to a molded one and the Wingmaster was still all metal.  That could have easily changed....  :dunno:  Regardless, I would say the fit and finish are markedly different too.

I'm just going to synthetic matte black.  Quick, because I am going to shoot some geese tomorrow
morning with it!

Go with the Remington, you will pass the 870 down.
