I've used a the MSR Hyperflow for 2 years for backpacking and search and rescue.  It got stolen when my car was broken into last month and I've already bought another.  Never had to replace the filter in two years.  Thing pumps incredible fast, is lightweight and compact - perfect for hunting/backpacking/SAR. Would never buy another pump as long as MSR makes this thing.    :twocents:

Also they're a Seattle based company that does a lot of their manufacturing here in the US so it's a good company to support.

They retail at $99

I use a katadyn, the Hiker Pro to be exact. It is only 70 bucks, and it pumps reasonably fast. It is kind of heavy, but its lighter than carrying water!!!!

MSR . I have a different model than above but still a great pump. Easy to field clean also. Mine I can screw right onto a nalgene bottle and my bladder too. Very handy.

Don't forget to look at Steripen. They should have them at Costco for 50 bucks with a water bottle. :twocents:

And one more vote.  One big plus of a pump vs. steripens is that you can use the pump to draw out of a small seep on a hillside where it isn't feasible to dip your water bottle trying to fill the Camelbak.

The Hiker Pro has a nice quick attachment for filling directly into a water bladder.

I have the sawyer squeeze. Pretty easy to use and not as slow as some might say. I had pumps but always had problems with clogs.

Katadyn for me for the last several years. If I was buying now, I'd buy the hiker pro but I'm not in the market. It works great. I clean it -per the instructions by cycling chlorine bleach through it a couple times a year.

I have had both over the years and use a MSR now and like it very much.  I can pump out of a mud puddle and still have drinkable water.

I've tried a lot of different options over the years from the hyperflow, to a sawyer, to tablets, to other pumps.

I really like platypus gravity filter.  I know I differ from the bunch, but I'm a big fan.  I fill up a bag with 4 liters.  Hang it in a tree and come back after a few casts and have 4 liters of filtered water ready.

Pur, bought it in 1990 replaced the filter once.  I know it works great...ran into H20 snag and purified the only option I had...a 3" deep mud puddle high up in the Shenandoah National Park.  Water was the color of creamed coffee and was crystal coming out.
