It all depends on how the out of state elk and deer hunting goes.

No elk plans this year. Haven't hunted them in a few years. If I had to choose between the two I would choose hunting birds over my dogs every year. Thats what I have done for the last three anyways. I haven't hunted elk since I started bird hunting in Saskatchewan in September. I fit a lot in every year but can't squeeze anymore in  without getting divorced. I've got a January trip planned also that I almost forgot about. :chuckle:

Just sold off my last rifle, Im going to put the money into this season's road trip gas fund.

SD, former boss just moved the SD.  In exchange for a good reference I have a free place to stay.  I'll look to stop in eastern MT as an employee has about 1k acres of CRP.  Should be a great time.

I'm right there with ya.     I remember being invited on a steelhead float trip on the Grande Ronde about 10+ yrs ago in the summer, and the whole time I just sat there scanning the cliffs looking for chukars and wishing I was up there with my dog.  Likewise, big game hunting is so much work, for such an infrequent reward.

Heading to central Oregon for a 3 day chukar hunt Nov 15-17, and would love to make it over to Hell's Canyon or the Owyhee's if I could.

Where we go the people hat the Pheasant, so they allow hunters, but control it. the nice thing about ND(only Place out of Washington I've hunted) is they have a plots map. It shows where all the public hunting is, and you will get birds in most of those. The bad thing about the book is it's hard to read, not labeled that well

Throw me in that camp too. Big game hunting is downright boring after hunting behind a dog, at least for me, and the reward out here is far too infrequent.

If I lived in other parts of the country overrun with white tails, and where they shut down upland hunting during modern firearms season, I would probably go and get a couple deer. But I don't so...

Been wanting to go out of state to do some pheasant or chukar hunting, my 11 month old shorthair has been in training for a few months and turning into a fine tuned finished bird dog and can't wait to get her out but looks like it will have to be a west side battle this year since I'm oblivious to any where to go on the eastside that is productive.
