Wildgame Innovations 6 MP Camera
« on: July 10, 2013, 09:04:07 PM »
Got a new Wildgame #W6E camera yesterday.  Midway had a sale on them, so I ordered one.  I've had a Wildgame 3 Megapixel camera for a couple of years, and other than the battery life, it's been great (4  C-cells)  The new camera uses AA batteries, and that should be better--we'll see.  The Ad was a bit deceptive, it said an SD card was included, (it wasn't), no matter, as it was still a good price, and the Ad said it was camo, and it's black.  No matter, as it will be going into the lock box anyway.  I thought it was malfunctioning when I set it up in the back yard today, and after a few minutes the red light didn't come on when I walked in front of it, so I thought it wasn't taking pictures.  At the end of the day I took the SD card out and checked, and it took over 160 pictures.  I have to lower the sensitivity, because a lot of the pictures were of the wind moving the bushes.  Lots of new features over my old 3 MP camera, we will see how it does out on the trail....

I have the same camera. I like using it in video mode, since if you do photos it will only take one every 15 seconds, and at night you'll get quite a bit of motion blur. But in video mode you get a nice 30 second video with the time and date stamp on it, which I believe most cameras give you the time and date only on photos.

Here's a video from my w6e:

Yes, I noticed a lot of blur on the IR night shots.  I'm putting it out at first on pictures only setting, but that nice video of yours will prompt me to put it on video.  The saplings right next to where my camera box is mounted are torn up from the last couple of year's bucks, so it's a pretty good spot...

My old 3 MP Wildgame camera takes good clear IR pictures.  I was surprised that this new camera, for all its features, takes such lousy IR pictures.  Discouraging, since the critters are most active at night....  :dunno:

UPDATE!  I went up to my game camera spot this morning, and swapped out the cameras.  the new camera is the same height as the old one, but it's narrower, but still fits the lock box perfectly.  I had to beat down the Thistles that had grown up in front of the camera, and I wish I had gone up sooner, but it's been so darn hot!  The good news is that the old camera took about 330 pictures.  The bad news is that over 300 of the pictures were of the weeds in front of the camera.  I did note the temperatures as I deleted the weed pictures, and on the afternoon of July 5th it got to 100 degrees there.

Now to see how the new camera does there.  I switched it to "Wide Angle", and lowered the sensitivity to "Medium".  The majority of the critters will be from 4 to 30 feet away anyway...
