Off to Camp
« on: July 13, 2013, 04:34:53 AM »
Gun Dog Exp will be here in a couple hours to pick up my brittany and whisk her off to summer camp in the prairies.  She will get dropped off in NE, spend the rest of July running on Quail and Chickens, and then it's off to South Dakota in August for summer training on pheasants, chickens, and sharptail.  This will be her 5th summer heading to the Prairies for summer camp in prep for the fall trial circuit.  Is anyone else sending their bird dogs off for summer camp?  If you ever get the chance, its money well spent.  Trainers can get so much done in a short period of time because of the rediculous amounts of wild birds the dogs get put on.  I'm crossing my fingers I can get out there to run dogs before the circuit starts in mid September.   I'm supposed to run her in our Amateur All Age Nationals in Nov, so I need to get polished up as well.  That however, will probably take a hell of a lot more than a few summers!

Wild.... My dad was considering sending his back for one more summer to get finished, but decided to send her to Dave Walker in ID to get finished up instead, due to scheduling conflicts of getting her out to SD. She was green broke when he got her back the first year, but he let her soften up.  He got her backa couple weeks ago and shes rock solid now.  She's awesome, but will never get a chance to run in a trial.  She's a true AA dog perfectly happy at 800 yards, but she's just his little hunting and fishing buddy.

Where's everyone's dogs going?  I know of a few trainers down by me going to either ND or Canada, and my trainer will be north of Winner SD.  Sounds like bird numbers are pretty good in than area.
