Prison Bucks
« on: October 18, 2008, 10:03:15 PM »
As some of you know I work at the Prison out in Monroe.  My friend captured these bucks outside the prison the other day.  One is a 2x2 and the other is a 4x5.  These deer get huge with no hunting pressure on the state land at the prison.  Over the years I have seen bigger blacktails on at the complex than these.  Also notice the size difference between the 2x2 and the 4x5.

:chuckle: I have a funny story to go along with those bucks... My brother drew a late permit for GMU 460. The last day of the hunt it was pissing rain and totally miserable. He left the hunting spot a little early dishearted and wet. On his drive home he was pasting the prison in Monroe. A 4pt with a broken back put traffic at a standstill. On lookers were asking the officer on scene if he called for an animal rescue. Knowing the officer just wanted the deer off the road to put it out of its misery and to get traffic flowing again my bro got out of his car to help. He is a big guy 6'4" 275. When he asked the officer if he needed any help getting the deer off the road the officer asked him back "do you have a system?" my brother just laughed. He walked up to the buck thinking it didn't have much more life in it and grabbed it by the antlers. My bro got a wake up call!!! The buck started thrashing and really putting up a fight. With people watching and his pride on the line my brother wasn't going to be out done by a lame deer. He wrestled with the buck finally getting it to the side of the road. Out of breath an happy he didn't get his butt handed to him my brother asked the cop if he could tag the deer. After showing the officers his hunting license and permit my brother go his buck.  :chuckle: not only did he tag it on the side of the road but he pulled his car next to it to shield the scene from the public and gutted the animal right there. When he brought the buck by the house he was still laughting at himself over the site that he must have been on next to the prison. Wet, cold and covered in blood my bro still got his biggest blacktail to date. if i can find a pic ill shot you the wall mount  :chuckle: ya he did get it mounted....

Just wanted to share

Sorry to add the story i dont mean to steal the thread. those are dandy bucks.

Awesome story. Classic.

I think someone ran over one of those prison bucks last night. Twas a dead one with a nice rack just before Monroe this morning. Same spot same time last year there was another road pizza buck too.  :dunno:

I think I would end up in the prison if I had to see bucks like that every day. I wouldn't be able to control myself.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Cool pics diehard.  My bro works as a geoduck diver in puget sound and has "tracts" near Mcneil island where there is a high level prison.  The bucks are absolutely monstrous there.  I worked on his boat and we saw bucks swimming from McNeil to another island.  Maybe it begs the question whether some or all areas in W. Washington should be two pt. or 3 pt. or better.  What are yours guys thoughts?

If your referring to McNeil it is no hunting.  I dont think you can even be 50 yards or so of the shore.  Cameras everywhere apparently.  During the rut though some of the adjacent islands might be a good bet although alot of private land.
