LBD (little bear down)
« on: October 19, 2008, 01:05:21 PM »
:chuckle:  Last weekend my Dad, Father in law, Brother and 2 of my brothers friends went north of colville for the deer opener. The deer hunting really sucked, there were a couple of small whitetail bucks passed up and NO mulies even seen. This is a small area and normally we will see a couple of locals road hunting but not very many people otherwise. In seasons past we will see upwards of 50 deer a day, mostly whitetails and a couple of mulies mixed in. This year the numbers were really low, I had seen maybe 15 whitetail does the whole trip and maybe 10 deer of unknown nature spooked in the timber  :dunno: , I'm a clutz  :chuckle:
On the 3rd day my father in law and I jumped in the truck to look for new areas farther north with more animals, to no avail. On the way back to camp a fellow stopped us and told me my brother shot a bear, how he knew it was my brother  :dunno:, (later this guy shot a small 3 point being the ONLY buck I know was taken in the whole area in 4 days!). I got up to where my brother said he was going to go and sure enough he was dragging the bear to the road by himself, not a good sign  :chuckle: :chuckle: .
I gave him a hard time but not too much being his first bear  :chuckle:
I figure it was between 125 and 150 lbs live weight (closer to 125), but it has a gorgeous coat, no rubs or bald spots, nice color. As with a lot of bears taken, he thought it was bigger and farther away.

This was the 2nd bear seen in 2 days, and I saw 5 moose over 4 days which was unusual for this area, glade to see they were doing well!
