washington goats 2013
« on: July 16, 2013, 08:03:40 PM »
Hey all got the news that I have been drawn for a chowder ridge  goat tag done a lot of back country just no playing on snow or in goat country any thoughts or help ? I have talked with Shane v.g  he is awesome he has helped so much with everything but don't know how much time he can spend on this, think his uncle has drawn  a tag for sheep. I don't want to bother Shane  with all the small stuff a newbie has to ask , he has sheep to look for.

Ask Norsepeak. I drew a goat tag back in '90 and was lucky enough to tag a stud billy with my PSE at 28 yards. Back then was before OIL was in effect so hopefully can get another one. I have spoke with Norsepeak on occasion back when I drew a Peaches elk tag and we compared notes on all the goats in the Naches area. He knows goats and can give ya some good info. He knows his goats, but the WDFW says he was miss identifying them when he approached them about the tag quota...........ya right :yike:

Found 41 in one bunch the other night.  Wish we could get another tag or two...Talked to the Bio in Mt. where I drew, she said the populations in the area I'll be hunting, she said around 300 goats in the unit, and 30 tags!!! :yike:  We have well over 300 goats in this state with only 14 tags..... :bash:

Don't reproduce until 4 - 5 year old.  Don't reproduce each year.  Do the math.  If you want the population to grow a 5-10%% human caused mortality rate is a very safe number.  Any more and human mortality rate would be addative.

Hey there Greg.  Congrats on a sweet tag.  The fellow you ran into on your recent scouting trip knows the area and the goats in the unit very well...

Be careful up on Chowder this Holiday weekend.  Lots of hikers out there.  We got along with most, but one idiot thought it would be a good idea to slash my buddies new tent.
