Do deer get hoof rot?

This morning there were four deer in my yard (2bucks :IBCOOL:) and one of the does was limping pretty good.  I'm sure a million things could have happened to it but it got me wondering if deer get the hoof rot too.  Anyone know?

They are a ruminant.  Affected by most of the same things.  However, there are over 40 known causes of hoof deformities in ruminants so saying hoof rot is to general.

Maybe a better question would be if they are affected by the same hoof rot as the elk in the sw part of the state. That I don't know.

Yeah they can get hoof rot, and ingrown hooves.  A lot of times you'll see some nasty feet on swamp bucks.  As far as what the elk have, I have not seen it affect resident deer where > 50% of the elk have bad feet.  To clarify, I have seen deer and elk hanging out in the same fields, on multiple occasions, and the deer do not show the signs that the elk do.

My guess is it is highly possible.  However, there I think harder to transmit if blood born.

I'll be darned.  That looks exactly like a smaller version of Elk hoof rot.  The disease has not been described in deer by the biologists working on the disease as far as I know.  I'd send that photo in to the WDFW elk hoof rot reporting system with a clear description of where you harvested the deer and any other photo's you have.  I'd hope they would take more than just a bit of interest in it.

Hoof rot was first observed and being actively studied in Oregon in deer.  I had a study once upon a time but lost it in a computer crash.  Yes deer get hoof rot and if my brain hadn't broke I might remember some of the details from the research I had read.  I stumbled on it searching for information about hoof rot in elk I believe it was a paper written by a biologist at one of the Oregon Universities.
