I hunt and stay with my nephew. I got him started hunting after his dad died, and he lives to hunt. He finds us a place to hunt on public and/or private. We hunted the sandhills last year, lots of public land, mostly mule deer. I live on a fixed income, and save for this hunt all year. It's a 22 hour drive from my house. So far Nebraska deer tags are about $250, I can hunt there for less than Idaho or Montana.
I drive my little Toyota Corolla, and share expenses with a guy. it's a tight squeeze, but do-able.
I lost my hunting buddy that I hunted with for 30 plus years. At my age, it's difficult to find a new hunting partner, as I have been here only a short time. I have killed about 15 blacktail bucks with the bow and one mule deer. These whitetails have given me the slip for about 5 years now. I only hunt my own small property, but the bucks have me patterned. Most all of the bucks in my area are small, and they all turn nockturnal. Nebraska has some hogs, not always in horn, but huge bodies. In Calif. I was spoiled with one of the best blacktail areas anywhere. I could get 2 tags, kill 1 meat buck and spend the rest of the season trophy hunting, hard to beat. I'm only 68, and I will quit hunting the day that I die. Good luck to all of you young guys, I hope that there will always be hunting seasons for you.
