unit 121 stolen cam
« on: July 17, 2013, 04:58:59 PM »
just went around checking cams in unit 121 and one of my bushnell x-8s (on slate river camera mount) was stolen.  python lock was cut.  this happened on hancock timber land where some work was just done, and there was only one set of tracks going up on top of that mountain.  nobody else other than the hancock crew has been up there since i placed the cam a month ago.  if anybody knows these guys id like to talk to one of them.  thanks

i went down to their office in colville yesterday, and got the "oh no none of our guys would ever possibly touch somebody's personal property, no, not OUR guys"       of course i dont know what else the guy at the office would possibly say, i was just hoping maybe they took it down for a reason and maybe it was at the office, but i knew that was a long shot.  had two cams on that mountain, they didnt find the other one, so thats something

I can't stand thieves.  Had two cameras stolen last winter.

Sorry to hear about that deaner, I would keep pursuing it but try not to let it ruin the experience of running cameras for you   :sry:
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I had two taken last year where they cut the tree to get them. I guess it is a risk we take. It is my opinion that most (not all) of the thieves are non-hunter types trying to ruin a hunters chances of success.

yeah im aware that its always a risk leaving stuff like that in the woods, but burns my ass anyway.  especially since im 99.9% positive that it was the hancock timber guys, who were probably in a crew of 2 for the job they were doing.  and its one of my cameras that i hung within reach, about 7 feet high, because the mosquitoes were so bad i didnt want to take the time to bother with the ladder.  cant help but feel if it was 12-13 ft up they wouldnt have seen it.  got complacent and i guess thats what happens.  i knew it was a sketchy spot from the get go, but since nobody (hunters) goes up there until at least september, figured id be safe in july.  didnt know forestry crew was going up there to work.  also had one of my cams chewed up pretty bad by a bear.  i guess it just boils down to learning lessons the hard way one cam at a time.  still would like to talk to any of the ground crew for hancock in the area tho to ask about who specifically was up there.

Make that 2 stolen.......just went up to check one of them and it is gone, tree has been sawed down........just a 10in snag, but its down and camera is gone...it was 12ft up and off the beaten path in a drainage.

I had one stolen by what I think was the same people... It was on hancock land and I had it out from end of September I went to grab it before rifle season and they had logged about 40 acres a hundred yards or so from my cam. Went down to the exact tree it was on and the cam was gone. They weren't logging on the section my cam was on so I'm not sure why they would take it....
