Anybody have good luck in the Bumping Unit.
« on: July 18, 2013, 10:45:33 PM »
I drew an archery bull tag for Goose Prairie and will be scouting/hunting the bumping unit. Saw some excellent sign up there the other day. Anyone been successful there?

Yes... I had a muzzleloader bull tag last year.  I scouted out 4 or 5 areas, they all had good potential.  I ended up with chances at 3 different really nice bulls that I just couldn't get into the right place at the right time.  I took home a 5x5 I got on day 7.  Have a good hunt, it's a great tag.

My father and I have hunted there the past 8 years or so.  Had to chase spikes the past few years, saw everything but a spike unfortunately.  This year we drew bull tags for modern though.  Do you know what part of the unit you'll be focusing on?  I headed over next weekend to look around.  Good luck with the hunt, keep us posted!

I bow-hunted that for a few years and stopped when they went to spike only. If you can get to Granite lake up above Bumping. Theres nice camping at the lake and almost no people. Ive had bulls bugling just outside camp a few times before daylight and plenty of cows to chase around.  Good luck and congrats on the tag :IBCOOL:

Sounds like my odds are pretty good. When we went up there a few days ago we ended up hiking in a ways we saw a lot of good sign and a cow but could only go so far since we had our 13 month old in a hiking pack. This is the first bull tag I've ever drawn so I'm determined to fill it even if its not the biggest bull. Thanks for all the insight. Can't wait to get back up there. :)

Good unit for a BB tag.  I like the s. & w. Side of that unit personally but best of luck.

Not as of 3 weeks ago. Roads still closed alittle past the new Deep creek bridge.

Hunted it two years ago, it is a great hunt. There is some tough ground in the unit. Get in good shape and you will be fine. The good bulls don't hang near the roads. The roads weren't fixed the year I hunted it. I will help you out just PM me.
SHUT UP & BENCH ! ! ! Bench BIG or go Home.
