Okay... Whos LEFT?
« on: October 19, 2008, 11:29:36 PM »
Just curious guys now that the general season is over, who still has deer hunting left?  I'm talking about you special tag holders, and the few others that are hunting whiteys during the late season!  Post up your tag and what dates you will be hunting.  I'll be home (Wenatchee is home and I'd be willing to help the Chelan CO tag holders) during thanksgiving and should be able to lend a hand to those hunting after the 24th I believe!

My plans are to hunt the 7th, 8th, and 9th up by Chewelah for whiteys and after that try to bust a few yotes and maybe some ducks!

Late whitetail...Chewelah. We are still strying to find some public land over there. If anyone has some directions to point us in that'd be super. We have two boys who had doe tags for Alta and didn't score. So, we are hoping we can take them somewhere on the late hunt and fill their tags. We have been hunting around home but, no luck yet. We found an area that a buck is in (rubs, tracks, trails..clover, creek) But, he hasn't came out yet. Not to sure how to hunt these blacktails, we've always gone east...Any hints?

I didn't score during the general. Not even presented with a shot. :'(

But it's time for elk camping, then look out yotes! I doubt I'll get up north for the late season. Although it is a fun hunt and really would like to try it again.

I've got a doe tag for the 117 so I'm taking my son over there to look for a couple of WT's for the freezer.  We're going over during the late season.

Well, here on the westside we've got till the the 31st on the general season. I'll be doing that but not too serious, as I've got a permit for the late Grayback hunt. I'll be there from Nov. 7-16.

Fingers are crossed for drawing the last raffle of the year, if not then its eating the deer tag and focusing on the moose tag.

My 17 year old son didn't even see a mulie buck this season. I'll be heading east to go with him while he hunts whitetail.

How's the bear population over in the NE, above Spokane? I've still got a bear tag. Maybe I should haul along my own rifle too...

Best of luck to all!

I drew a moose tag and shot my moose on the 4th. The only shooter buck I saw was two nights before season opened.(before the full moon) I've hunted every day in my old area's when I lived in Chewelah. (I grew up there and moved away 3 1/2 yrs ago). The only bucks I saw to shoot was a spike and a small fork horn. The full moon and clear nights have the deer moving late and back early. :bash: This is the most day to day hunting I've done in years. And no buck. I am horn hunting because of a freezer full of moose meat. But, only passing on two small bucks in two weeks of hunting is just wrong. I know the deer are here because I see tracks in fresh plowed fields. O well, one week to go and it back to work after a mouth off. :yike: Looks like a weather change is coming and I'm starting to see buck scraps. ;) Hopefully I'll have a wall hanger picture to post.

Ever five years or so I decide I want to try rifle hunting again. Its kind of fun to be able to poke out and touch a deer at 400ys if I want to. Now I remember why I bow hunt. My hunting partner and I put on over 25 miles of ridges in this weekend and close to 200 miles of prime rds. and only saw two small bucks. We seen at least 200 deer between the ridges and the farm fields that you cant hunt this weekend and only five bucks. 3 in the fields, none over forked horns. I could hardly sleep at night because the moon was so bright. Any way long story short, I still have my deer tag and I'm holding on to it for the late season. I could've filled it on small bucks but I'm hoping to fill my freezer with a nice bull next week so I've been trophy hunting. In our group of 5 we have shot, 2 does (B tags) and 3 bucks, 2 spikes and a forky since opener. My wife and I saved our tags for the late hunt. Kelly Hill to 49 North the 17th ish of next month

PS: I'll be back in the woods bow hunting next year
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.

Colockum modern elk zoo (circus??) Saturday.  Then late archery, still haven't decided whether to start in Swakane or Manson.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I've bow hunted for 23 years, killed some nice bucks. September is the best time to hunt. But, since I moved, I only have time to gun hunt with the kids. Use to kill my deer and take the kids and wife hunting.

Will be heading to the Blues with son and a friend.  We drew late whitetail buck permits...BM Foothills A.  Season from Nov. 3-19.  We're arriving on the 8th and staying for the duration.  Will be my 4th time hunting this season since 94'....son's 5th since 95' and friends 2nd since 2003.

Thats EXACTLY how I felt this year!  The last two years I hunted archery, then went back to modern for the high hunt this year...  didn't score there so I hunted a weekend and a day for the general and I remembered why I went archery in the first place! lol

Next year I'll be a resident of Idaho and will be able to hunt archery, and modern in the same year so that's my plan!

Well, the group this year is five for seven so far, but not a one with antlers. Freezer is filling up, so my ML tag will be for horns. Looking for a couple big bucks in the Kapowison Tree farm. Elk is coming too. May need to get another freezer.

10 days arouned Colville/Huckleberry and lost count of the amount of does we saw.  One buck the whole time and it was little fork horn at 150yds.  Heard of a few nice muleys in the area, but never saw anything but does.
Did run across a HUGE bull moose.  Looked like a match for Pumpkin's bull.  If I had the tag, could have taken him at 10 yards.  Of course, my camera decided to not work at that time! :bash:  The automatic lens cover did not open so all I got was a black screen.  Had to take them apart to get them working again, but never saw the bull again.

Looks like a few days here for blacktails, then back to the property for late whiteys..............

Michael J,
I have a late Entiat Archery for Nov 20th to the 29th, of which I'll be hunting the 22nd through the 29th.  Have one buddy going with me but he can only hunt Swakane.  We did see some decent deer in that area last year.  I'd take any help or advice you'd be willing to share and would try to return the favor.  I'd PM you with a few questions if you don't mind.  Good Luck to all that haven't tagged out yet!

I'm still left :dunno: still looking for that big bull moose, may give late whitetail a try if I find the moose before then but still have elk, deer and antelope tags for Montana, will be heading over there in a couple weeks.

Entiat Rifle Nov. 1-12 and then Idaho Late Buck 13-18.  Can't wait, I made it through the general without seeing a decent buck that I would have to make a decision on, and now can't wait.  Good Luck to all,

I plan on trying to connect on my first blacktail. Going to Idaho first week of november. If all goes well there and I have not tagged out on a blackie then I will maybe spend sometime in the NE corner for a late whitey. I still have a lot of hunting to go!

I still got my tags. May do somemore blacky with my daughter. Think I'm going to bag spike elk this year and head east to Kettle Falls for late whities. Never have poked one and would like to. Shot plenty of blackies and mulies, gota get that white tail. Course I could take the wife down for wet side elk. I'm SOOO confused :bash:

Hi There,

After waiting a number of years I finally drew out on a late Entiat Rifle Permit.  I'm not from the area, but have done as much research as possible without getting over to the unit.  Work keeps me out of town a lot during the summer/fall months.  Not a good thing.  I've heard of the familiar places to look for the late hunt.  Just had a few questions for someone that has had this tag and is willing to share a bit.  I'm planning on being there the last week.  That time of the year is it better hitting some of the higher elevations if possible or concentrating a little lower.  Also, most say just drive the roads and glass??  I'd rather try to hike in somewhere to get away from the "limited crowd" if possible.  Any ideas?  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Oops, thanks Ray

It's so counter intuitive  :hello: I'll probably post something in the tips section to permalink search results if I have not already.
