First ever kill

Iv been hunting for about 3 years now and have yet to ever pull the trigger until yesterday.
My dad and I took a trip out to Grayback to see if we could harvest a nice buck this year. After 4 days of not even seeing a doe I told my day we should pack up our camp site and head down the road to another place we have scouted a month before. As soon as we got there I had my doughts,cause we talked to a hand full of hunters and they all said the same thing " seen alot of sign but no deer, no one has shot a buck in camp since opening day". I figured it was the morning of our last day so we should give it a shot anyway. I told my dad that we should just split up and push all morning and meet back at the truck at noon. We split apart and I was walking for about an hour and a half when I came into a big meadow and  saw a nice little 3x3 mulie jump up from his bed.  I put the scope right behind his shoulder and squeezed the trigger. I was excited and overwhelmed with joy knowing i had harvested my first ever buck. He wasn't the biggest mulie out there but he will put meat in the freezer, and I think it was a good buck to break the ice with

Nice Buck! That looks mostly like a Blacktail to me. That unit has many cross bred deer in it. The rack definately looks BT as well as the ears, just slightly bigger that a BT

I could be wrong but I think Grayback is one of those units where the bucks are considered crossbreeds and ineligible for book scoring as blacktail but that is a black tail if you ask me.  Instead of saying it isn't the biggest mulie I would say it is one hell of a blacktail.

Nicwe buck rudedawg!!!  I would say that thing definately looks a lot more blacktail than muley.  Antlers, black markings on back of legs, hide color and face markings scream blacktail.  I'm not familiar with that unit, but those are some pretty deer.  Well Done!!!

Sometimes the tails can be good at distinguishing characteristics between the species too.
