Hello my name is frank I am currently in Florida Waiting to sell my house and land to move to Washington state, I have two hundred acres in the Florida pan handle That I hunt on in the past people kept  stealing my game cameras  so this is what I did.
Theft Prevention can be fun I have taken old game cam boxes and put small portable fence charges in them with thin copper strips on the outside, I put three out and since then I have not lost another.
I don’t recommend doing this before checking local laws and seeing what your liability might be, we are so far out in the woods that no one cares about it.

That's a pretty good idea. it would be great to have another cam watching the shock box to get pics of the thieving *censored*s getting the the sh*t shocked out of them.

The biggest obstacle on moving to WA is not the fact that we are trying to sell our house and land in this economy, it’s finding a place that my wife of 30 years and I can agree on she likes the city and I like the small towns close to the hunting lands.
We are going to take a series of scouting trips to WA. I would welcome any suggestions from the members on this forum I have been watching and reading post for a while and have come to value your post and your way of looking at things, seems to me that you all value and treasure the same thing I do, hunting, fishing the great outdoors and American way of life any suggestions would be apperceived.

I second the Tri-City suggestion (Richland, Kennewick, and Pasco).  Also, check out Walla Walla.

Spokane is a large city, but definitely not Seattle.  The west side of the state is almost its own separate identity.  If you can find Spokane agreeable to your tastes, I would live somewhere north of that city and find you some big lot up against forest land. Welcome to WA.

If you're considering the west side of the state, consider the Kitsap peninsula.  You can get some space between neighbors, but you can also be close to the city.  If you do commute for work in the city, your commute is on a ferry boat--you don't have to pay any attention to the morning radio traffic reports.  You are close to fresh water, salt water, forest and mountains.

Great stuff, now we have a place to start the bad part is whenever I go to WA. I don't want to come back to Florida as an avid outdoors man I have seen the total detruction of south Fl. during the boom of the past years, now that we are on the bust side of things people are getting out. Ican't wait to get in to the mountains YAHO!

Wenatchee would get my vote!!!!!  Western WA is nice but I hate the brush and crowds!
Wenatchee is close to the Best Muley herds in the state as well as great elk hunting! Mountains are in your back yard and you are on the Columbia for some great fishing!

I'd recommend Lacey, good distance between Seattle and Portland, and not too far to the mountains.  Just my .02

Hey Frank, I agree with the posts talking about the east side, like Tri cities and the area. Don't over look the Peninsula though. Near Sequim you can have the best west side weather and some great hunting plus salt water fishing.

Yeah, I was going to mention Sequim.  It doesn't get much rain there; a lot of people retire there because of the weather.

If you want to see what the state has to offer in ways of climate and landscape, I would suggest ordering the DVD "Over Washington".
It's an hour long show shot from an airplane over most of the state. It's beautiful, I got it years ago and still watch it. Give it a shot.

I would check out north of spokane still have the city close but not to busy like seattle. great whitetail turkey elk deer moose anything and everything. check out the elk area 30 minutes to town deer in your back yard.

Hey Frank… I like the idea about the trailcams… kinda like the guy in Chapel Hill…

Now I am a Washington (wetside) Native… and my wife and I are trying to plan for our retirement… we are considering many things but Hunting and Fishing are very close to the top… so here are a couple of ideas and I would agree with the suggestion about “Over Washington” DVD….

So, a couple of questions… Does your wife want to LIVE in the big city or just be able to visit it and do thing there and then go home? Are you going to be retired or have to work? Are you willing to drive to the city and maybe spend the night or weekend to partake of city activates?

I like the idea of Eastern (dryside) Washington for Small/Big towns and quick access to hunting and fishing Yakima or Wenatchee… this provides 1 ½ hour drive to Seattle (not in winter)… we are also leaning heavily towards the Tri-Cities…. But it is a further drive to Seattle or Boise.

Now if you are going to be on the Western (wetside) Washington… you may want to consider Centralia or Chehalis this puts you in between to Big/Large towns Seattle/Tacoma and Portland, it also puts in easy access of much hunting and fishing (lots of timber company hunting access and fishing Columbia/Kalama/Lewis/Cowlitz and many other rivers and many lakes)…. And you are outside the very high taxed counties of King/Pierce/Snohomish.

So, it really will be dependent on answering several questions about the type of life style you want and how many neighbors you need….

Thank you all for the great info I sent away for the DVD today, can't wait for our scouting trip we plan to spend three weeks going all over WA. state.
