2 wolves spotted on trail camera in SW Washington
« on: July 22, 2013, 11:27:24 AM »
Went to check trail cameras in SW Washington towards the coast for September early season elk. Got some great bulls on camera and as we are flipping through the pictures we see these guys. Keep in mind this is behind locked gates with no access unless bike or hike in. Closest house is around 5 miles away with nothin but steep canyons and timber, and across a main highway. What do you guys think? Wolves?

Initially looks like a wolf, especially the one in the back but the one in the front I am not sure about. Wouldn't surprise me though! My logical side leads me to think they are dogs though.

My vote for dog, I was always under the impression that a curled tail (as pictures by the lighter) is dog. Wolves tails are straight and bushy, with no curl at all.  :dunno:

The best way I know of finding out what they are is the next time you are in the area, just go around whistling and saying "here boy, here girl" and if the animals don't come to you they are wolves.

Use to read this on the net all the time.  But some many guys from ID, MT, and WY have posted pics with wolves that have there tails curled that I don't believe it anymore.

I also think they are dogs.  If they are as far away from people as you say, then they are definitely up to no good.  My guess is running deer.  I have seen this many times.  Even if someone has a good dog, all it takes is a little neglect (owners at work 8 hrs a day), and the dog gets bored and starts wandering.  Pretty soon he has a group of friends, and then they do exactly what dogs do.  They hunt/chase.
