Info on elk area 4941 skagit river
« on: July 23, 2013, 05:10:26 PM »
I drew a cow elk tag for archery in elk area 4941. This is on the Skagit river part of GMU 437.
I moved to Western WA around 4 years ago from the Colfax area. I still deer hunt there, but bow hunt elk over here.
I have a feeling this area will be difficult getting into with private land issues
Does anyone have any advice for me?
Maybe swap some info if you hunt East of mountains......?
I hunt upland, waterfowl, coyotes, and deer in E. Wa

Figured this would be a good place to start.

for those of you you sent PM's thanks!!
Seems like this is going to entail some knock and talks. This will be a new experience to be on this side of the scenario. Willing to share meat, build some fence, bottle of good whiskey, etc, etc
I guess I will drive down high way 20 and pick some houses.
Hopefully i will already be tagged out with a bull, but I never count on that!!

If any one knows a particular section to focus on that would be great!!!!!

I understand this is somewhat of a sensitive subject since the locals there lost this area due to some less  than ethical hunters. :bash:
I've had the privilege to hunt for the last 24 years and can assure anyone willing to throw some tips my way that i was brought up right.

thanks

I would call the Game biologist for this area and i bet you could turn on to some property owners to contact.

This question has probably been beaten to death, but........
Where can I get a map with property lines and owner names?
I need more options when asking permission.

Should I be posting in a different forum section. Got permission on a few plots.
Got lots of names, but no contact info.
Seems WDFW is throwing everything at this problem area now.

There are several landowners with large tracts  of land. There should be another meeting concerning these elk next month. Call the la conner office of the wdfw. The bio is Chris Danielson, I think they recently employeed a hunt coordinator that will give you all the leads and landowner #s you need. I believe you can call the Mill Creek office and talk to the regional Captain (I believe it's Rich Phillips) he has been very involved in the area. Good luck on your hunt.

Just search the Skagit County assessor office and use the map tool. Tell you more than you need to know.

All good advice.
I've spoken to the herd biologist a few times.
Had lots of names, but no contact info....ie..phone number and address.
I've driven up a few times for knock and talks.
I don't mind doing the leg work, but more info is always appreciated.
Thanks guys
