Yeah, its a ZOO Labor Day weekend with all the campers.  People from the lake all the way to the top!  Sucks, because there are a lot of idiots out shooting guns, driving 4x4 trails and roads, the weekend before Archery season starts on Tuesday.  Elk get bumped out of areas and you need to figure out where they go when they feel pressured.

ET

The Elk dont just leave because of Labor Day weekend. 4x4ing, shooting ect happen all summer. The Elk that are in the area are used to it.
Just like Little Natches, Nile, Bumping ect. We use it for 4 x 4 ing all summer. As do many others. As well shooting were legal.
Only an idiot would make a statement like that calling others idiots because there legally using a resource that was made for these types of activities. Maybe you should hunt off the roads!

Dude, don't get your panties in a bunch.  Maybe "idiots" was a little storng.  More frustration on my part that we used to get to hunt elk and deer beginning Labor day weekend before all the extra pressure caused by these "recreational" users.  Not saying the elk leave, but definitely change patterns due to extra pressure.

I have many trail cams that go blank (or animals go nocturnal) every year around the 4th of July and Labor Day holidays.  Yes, people do use the resource all summer.  But, the density of the people around these holiday's is what causes them to go hide.  I agree, the limited number of users during the rest of the summer have little or no affect on the elk.

No, I don't hunt the roads.  I've been hunting these beautiful creatures for over 38 years (the last 34 years with a bow) and I've shot my elk opening day for the last several years.  So, I'm no idiot my friend and have been successful determining where they go when pressured.  I just remember better times when we didn't have to compete with these types of recreational users, many of whom are NON-hunters.  Heck, I have an old 72 Blazer I like to get out on the trails sometimes.  I also have many rifles, pistols and muzzleloaders that I'll take out and shoot from time to to time.  Just not right before archery season in the areas I plan to hunt!

Hey, I resemble those remarks  :4w: :4w: :4w: :4w: :4w: :4w:

The elk are there, you just got to find the dark hole they are hiding in.

Hey Pete,

I resemble those remarks too.  It's more the density of people during the holiday weekends that affect the elk, not the activities.  As I stated in my original post, you definitely need to figure out where they are holing up to be successful.

See you soon!
