I don’t mean to gang up on you, but that’s no way to run a business. You can’t just take someone’s animal and nearly a grand and then disappear off the face of the earth, without so much as a quick call to your in-process customers to at least let them know.

I think Machine was 10x as patient as I would have been.

If I go on vacation from my job I leave a message on my voice mail that I will be unavailable from this date to that date.  :dunno:  :twocents:

I think there are some things that need addressed that don't add up here. First off the statement you haven't logged on in a month isn't exactly true. I watched this thread from the beginning and your profile showed you were active on the site the day after this thread started. I am all for vacations but when you are backlogged that bad and are holding on to peoples hard earned money a month long vacation should wait till your caught up. The I'm not getting PM 's excuse seems to have been going on quite some time now and why on earth would you not answer phones for a couple months. And I cannot be sure but am almost positive you have stated before that this site was the best way to get a hold of you. I had hoped that this was an isolated issue last time but it seems to be a recurring problem which is to bad. Cause I would have loved to have someone who was considered really good when I get my first bear, but I will take it elsewhere and would probably not recommend your shop to anyone. I think you need to hire some help to run the business side of things. Good luck with you business.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.

I'm not going to direct this towards any specific taxidermist but this topic has me wondering how taxidermy customers would feel about being able to access a web page or receiving a monthly newsletter update spammed out to all of their taxidermists current customers that provides a brief statement about how things are going around the shop and a list of customers in order of when they should expect their animal to be finished, along with an estimated completion date for the top few animals on the list.

I'm guessing taxidermists go into the business because they have a love for the work rather than because they think it is the best money-making business available but if they could employ this kind of a business model and then stick to their word I believe they could have a very successful business model with a lot of satisfied, repeat customers who don't stay awake at night wondering whether their trophy of a lifetime is safe and will ever be complete. :twocents:

Couple years back I had Michelle do an Elk skin for me.  She said it would take 12-14 months and it took 12-14 months.  I have, and will continue to, recomend her to my buddies who need work done.

Tannery time is excessive.  Taxi's cannot control that unless they do the work in house and most are not set up to do this.  When I had my African work in 2007, it took over 10 months to do the tanning, and just 3 more months to do the taxidermy on 9 animals.  This was in Texas.

Michelle has always been "stand up" in her dealings with me and my buddies.

"Communication rules the nation" a simple vacation message on your greeting may have prevented this....

Taxidermy seems to have many variables & a lot of outsourcing which means not high profit for high quality & to many hobbyist trying to be pros...

I would make sure they have a shop you can stop by & visit and BS with them, gotta get boring talking to dead animals all day...

At least her friends & the site admins get her top attention & service!!!

I know for a fact that your last statement is not true.

Any work she has done for me (and others I know) has been in the order it was received.

well, I met her once.  When I dropped off my hide, and I got good attention and service.

I guess the threshold for "friend" is low...

Pretty sweeping statement there.

I think there are some things that need addressed that don't add up here. First off the statement you haven't logged on in a month isn't exactly true. I watched this thread from the beginning and your profile showed you were active on the site the day after this thread started.

Yeah after I got about a dozen Text Messages and a couple phone calls from friends letting me know about this thread.  I tried to access the site from my phone.  In an area with not the greatest service.  I read through just about the entire first page and lost signal.

I am all for vacations but when you are backlogged that bad and are holding on to peoples hard earned money a month long vacation should wait till your caught up.

I am not going to post every detail of my Vacation/Staycation, because quite frankly it's nobodies business but my own.  Hunting Washington is not my personal journal.  If people don't like that. . . .sorry.  There were repairs and maintenance around here that needed to be done!  I couldn't work on customer projects during that time.  The work had to be done before hunting season and before it started raining.

The I'm not getting PM 's excuse seems to have been going on quite some time now and why on earth would you not answer phones for a couple months.

Where in this thread did I say I wasn't getting PM's?  Where in this thread did I say I didn't answer the phone for a "couple months"?
