Time for a new bowstring.
« on: July 28, 2013, 11:32:26 AM »
So my bow is about 4 years old now and it's time for a new string. What do you guys recommend? My local bow shop (Whitetails Plus) can hook me up with a custom color string WC installed for about $150 out the door. Seems like a pretty good deal. I have never had to replace a string before are these good?

BriteStrings or VaporTrail strings.

I would recommend XXX G strings but Cory doesn't build strings this close to season.

Winners choice are way overpriced. Lots of other choices just as good if not better for $30 or more cheaper. I like vapor trail $90-100 and arrive in 3-4 days. After they broke in, I havent had any peep rotation, poundage and ATA is the same, and I have no serving seperation after over a year. And I shoot at least 4 days a week all year. And no extra charge for colors like WC either.

Of the three strings I've had on my current bow, Winners Choice has been the best. In the process of buying another.

Well I've got about 500 arrows on my new WC string so far and solid as a rock. Shot in after about 30 shots. No movement since.

I was a wc fan for a long time but I think they have gone downhill in recent years.  My current is americas best. I order all 452x for a more stable string but slightly slower. Also doesn't get fuzzy like 8125.
I have ordered xxx strings amd been very pleased with them also but I like to support the local shopso I order through him.
Scary to do that so close to season bt just make sure to shoot the hell out of it!
Whitetail plus will order abb also. He does for me.  :hello:

Cool thanks for the info. As far as the time frame I dont plan on hunting early archery unless we get a cold snap. I plan on just waiting till the late season. But then again I dont know if I can really afford the cost right now anyway. May just wait and get it next spring.

Let me ask you guys this. How do you know when its time? I bought the bow new 4 years ago. String looks ok, but figured factory string was probably worn out.

measure brace height, and draw weight to start.  If there is any serving wear at the cams or center shot, its time........fuzzy ?  its time.  4 years ? its past time.   :twocents:
