WHITERIVER A
« on: October 21, 2008, 02:15:57 PM »
well it's getting close to elk season, i asked earlyer this year for some info on the white river a unit, and got back some good info. what we have going on here is my buddy drew an any bull tag for that unit. he's going to be hunting gmu 653 while i'm going to be hunting 454 or 652 or 654. i would like to know if anyone knows of any campsite that are close to any combination of these gmu's? he's driving so i'm going to be on foot most of the time. i'd like to be able to walk from camp so i don't have to bother him to drive me anywhere" i'm sure he wouldn't mind driving me a little ways" we might be taking a drive down that direction this friday to check things out.   are the gates into 653 locked? does a person need to buy a permit to drive the roads?

The Hancock tree farm part of 653 is gated and it costs $200 for each of you if you access the tree farm by vehicle. You can walk in for free but most of the Muckleshoot tribe will be driving by you at 40 m.p.h.  It is heavily hunted from August on by the Muckleshoot tribe for both deer and elk. Parts are in 454 and 653 but they are small and brushy and heavily hunted also. The is alot of the area above Greenwater on both sides of Highway 410 that is public land in 653.....Greenwater Lakes area/parts of crystal Mt./West Fork of White River area/Huckleberry creek. These would be 653 only. There are areas of 653 and the Stampede unit you could hunt that run together up in the Lester area but I don't know much about those boundaries. Lots of people camp in the Greenwater area. Hope that helped...................Les

thanks moosestock..helps alot.  is the hancock tree farm land in the north, south east or wast of gmu 653? and about what percent of 653 is tree farm land? do the mucklesshoot hunt out of the tree farm much or do they stay in the tree farm mostly because we cant drive in there treating it like a soveirgn nation?

I dont beleive you can access the Hancock timberlands on foot for free. I am certain that you have to get a pass to access the land by vehicle or on foot. You will want to check that before you go.  :twocents:

the muckleshoots took 2 nice 6x6's out of the hancock tree farm a couple of weekends ago in the grass mountain area (or so the old guy who checks passes tells me) too bad they are hunting there now, the did some serious damage to the game population in the snoqualmie tree farm. do you maybe have your units mixed up - 454 is issaquah and that is a long ways from 653. I live in the issaquah unit and hunt white river for deer. did you mayb mean 460 snoqualmie? Issaquah unit is non high powered rifle only in most parts. Not alot of drive in access in snoqualmie but there are Elk around. I was out in the white river hancock tree farm yesterday deer hunting and saw one monster of a bull and saw some others in there a few weeks ago. There are plenty of gates for walk/bike in in the area that you can hunt as well.

I hear all the keys are sold for white river forest. But, you can bike, horseback or walk in without the pass that is in the documents i received with my pass.

I will be down in pacific county hunting elk as i dont have a permit for white river. I hope all the old areas i used to hunt there haven't been logged to heavily with all the blow down that happened last winter looked like a whole new landscape there a month or so ago when I went down there.
