Factory Rem700 7mm Magnum/ scope package.
« on: August 03, 2013, 09:23:12 PM »
I found a donor rifle for my next build at Bi-Mart in EBurg. Had it transferred to Wenatchee and picked it up today (369.00) before tax. I was getting ready to pull it all apart to ship it but for some reason I just had to shoot it. I gave the bore a good scrubbing with Butch's. Dug through the reloading pile and found 12 handloads I have used in other Rem700's.

7mm Magnum
140gr Hornady Interlock
Federal brass
Federal 215
69gr H4831SC
3.290

Made sure everything was tight on the rifle, including the Chinese made 3-9x40 scope it came with sporting the Remington "R" on the adjustment covers. Walked a target out to 100 yards, went back to the rifle. Spread out a wool blanket to lay on, attached a bipod and loaded 3 rounds. From the prone using my fist as the bag. The first group was right on the money windage wise, 8" or so inches low. I made a scope adjustment for elevation, let the rifle cool off. I fired the second group, rounds 4,5 & 6 the group just bellow the orange dot. I made a elevation adjustment, I wanted to be 3" inches or so high to be close to a 300 yard zero, I let the rifle cool. I then fired rounds 7, 8 & 9 which grouped about 3" high at 3/4" of a inch.

I then drove the target out towards the back of the propery, scribbled a black 2" circle on it and drove back. Grabbed the rifle, range finder, blanket and three rounds. Had to back off a bit more to get 300 yards. Threw the blanket down and as before I fired rounds 10, 11 and 12 from the prone on 9x using my fist As the rear bag. None of the three rounds fired at 300 yards were more than 2 1/2" inches from my point of aim. Holding center of the 2" black circle.

All in all I was fairly impressed, for 369.00 and a little tax. The rifle was ready to go out of the box and capable of taking game to 300 yards and a little beond(Hold a deers back at 400) within 12 rounds under field conditions.

First groups at 100 yards.

300 yard group.

Stock/ Factory Rem700 SPS/ADL package(7mm Magnum).

Never shoot the donor rifle!!!!! :chuckle:

At least it wasn't shooting .5 MOA out of the box with the cheap scope. That makes it harder to chop them up.

That's a good price for the rifle, I thought they usually go for more, and great shooting on your end as well. What are you building with this?

A variant of a 7mm-.300 Winchester Magnum, I've been interested in the cartridge for some time but had other things going on. Finally got around to having a reamer built to my specks( 7.21 Sage) Different case taper, shoulder angle and neck length. There are several variants already being used, 7mm Rogue, 7mm Practical, 7mm Valkyrie etc.

There was no shipping or transfer fee, store to store. Just needed it for the action.

So does "721 sage" require setting the barrel back?

That's a fair price then. They are surprisingly accurate right out of the box. Keep us posted on the build

Yesterday I found a Rem700 stainless magnum that I am going to use for my 7mm-300 Winchester build. So the above rifle was just posted in the classifieds, I have no use for it. I already have several assorted 7mm.

350.00 Plus acctual shipping if I have to ship it.
