Newbie Deer Hunter

So I got my 30-06 and looking at a Redfield revolution scope.

Any good places along the I-90 corridor? Maybe snoqualmie pass, stampede pass?

Where should I scout? What should I be looking for? I've gotten used to Google Earth.

What kind of hunting are you looking to do? Hike behind gates, road hunt, something in between? I-90 has some places to hunt but you could do better if you go sout or east a couple hours. But that being said, I honestly believe there are deer everywhere in wa. If you put in the scouting time you can find them.

I've seen deer hunting with stands (don't really care for that), I'd rather hike to the deer.

If I'm looking for grouse habitat, will I find deer in the same areas?

I think what people need to know, is how far are you able to hike in? I can't help much with areas off I-90. I would hunt an area that I'm already familiar with. Where are you hunting grouse?

Behind gates means gates that are not open to motorized vehicles so you have to hike in , road hunting is driving down open logging, or DNR roads and checking clearings until you find something.

Yes you will find grouse around the same areas you find deer.

There are a couple good books by Boyd iverson, and Scott haugen on blacktail hunting that might help speed up your learning curve.

Oh, I have no problem hiking. I'm pretty comfortable in the mountains.

I see a bunch of deer in residential areas of Issaquah. Are there any places around Issaquah or North Bend? Go Hunt has a large elk area in North Bend but it's like the entire city.

Any ideas?

DVM9, I also am about the embark on deer hunting this year with my son who is 16.  He wants to learn.  I also want to stalk instead of tree hunting.   

I have heard that the east side of the mountains, the black tail are much harder to hunt.  I have been told to head to the other side of the pass and stalk white-tail and mulies instead.

I was thinking of joining issaquah sportsmen club and pick some brains as to where to go.  Or maybe just head to wenatchee or over by lake kachess or something else.  Hell I have no idea yet really.  I want woods and trees, I have a 30-06 so not looking to put my son into a 500 yd shot in the desert, more like a possible 150 in the trees.

Maybe someone else here will chime in also on possible I-90 corridor spots.

I would hope you are not planning to use a 30-06 to hunt grouse with. I am not sure there would be much left of the bird. I dunno maybe I am wrong about that. Anyways what janttihunter said is pretty much what and where I would start. You may even go and take a look at the section of the forums called hunt swapping or buddy hunting I can't remember whats its called but I'm sure someone in there would be more and glad to hunt with you and or give you some advice. Just my 2

Once it opens, zoom into Washington state.
Find an area you would like to explore inside the green shaded area. 
Go out and scout it, look for deer sign.  The best deer sign to find is deer.  If you spot deer on your scouting trip and you are within the green on the map, you can hunt it and should hunt it during deer season.

dmv9.........Good luck out there. I don't have much to offer in regards to areas but I would suggest looking at a few YouTube vids and make sure you know the regs about tagging. If you are getting back a ways you are going to probably be looking at boning out your deer and keeping proof of gender, head/horns, genetalia, etc with the bulk of the meat.

No, I got a 12ga for the grouse minsters.
